I can't say that I'm especially surprised but I don't necessarily think that this is indicative of his sexuality.

Male & transgendered prostitutes are an even more marginal population than the females he targeted as well.

One of the key characteristics of a sociopath (is that term dated? I don't know what is appropriate or PC now) is the ability to empathize in a shallow way and adapt to a victim.

He was probably most concerned with robbing and less concerned with the prospect of sex with males he contacted.
