As for fun, just touring the Quincy Market area is fun, especially if you like to shop.  The Aquarium and its I-Max is not too far, and there are boat excursions from around there.

If the ocean gets you a bit seasick, then head up to the Public Gardens and take a swan boat ride.

Has new management and chef.  I have not seen any great reviews since the change over.

I'm looking to find the best suggestions for a great adventure downtown close to the Financial district/Quincy Market area. I am looking for some great dining options (not a big fan of Italian food but love all the rest), fun indulgent shopping (I adore vintage finds) and the best coffee in town. I am also hoping to relax and simply take in the area and just do some fun things.
So what do you suggest?

Financial District, shopping not that great, if you coming on a weekend, all your going to hear is crickets.
Quincy Market is a tourist trap, you, need to hit Newbury street (still a little bit of a tourist trap).

If you're on Newbury, there are two places near the bottom of the street (away from financial district) that are pretty good.

Espresso Royale Cafe, 286 Newbury - www.espressoroyaleboston.com, which also has a location on Comm Ave closer to the Common.

Wired Puppy, 250 Newbury - www.wiredpuppy.com

If you are in the Financial District I'd recommend venturing out to the South End, Boylston Street, Newbury Street area.  It's a little farther out but greatly increases your options beyond the typical touristy places.  Try No. 9 Park for food.  There are several vintage (but pricey) shopping places on Newbury St. There used to be several good coffee houses in downtown Boston but now there is just Starbucks for the most part.  You could try the Other Side Cafe or Pavement Coffeehouse.
