Dont eat before. Start with an empty stomach.

Pressure point

A paramedic friend of mine taught me a little trick involving a couple of pressure points. Firm steady pressure on the Hegu or Neiguan points will suppress the gag reflex. Once you get used to the feeling, you may find you don't need to use the pressure points anymore, but it definitely helps when you're first starting out.

It takes alot of practice!

I used to have a terrible gag reflex.  I fought against it, and eventually got to the point that I seldom gag.  It's still there from time to time, but as long as I am not on my back with my head hanging over the edge of the bed, I usually don't gag
