Neptune Oyster - best lobster roll in the city
B&G Oyster - cool place, really good raw bar
Sportello is a very good newer restaurant. Also has counter service but don't let that throw you it is very good food. Both B&G and Sportello are the same chef.

Legal is OK but you can get it anywhere. Summer Shack is just OK as well.

Hi Everyone,

I will be in the city next week and all I can think about is the fact that last time I was in Boston I had very possibly the BEST seafood in the damn airport....yes the AIRPORT!!!

So that got me to thinking, if the food in the airport is that good, I KNOW there has to be a (or a few) restaurant in the city that is known for nothing but it's seafood. So help me out here. What is/are the BEST seafood places in the downtown area.

I am treating myself so anything up to $$$$ is fine. Thank you all in advance  :-)

The same thing as Legal Seafood? Are these two different places or is it one in the same??

Licks,

Estelle

Showcased Belle Isle seafood in Winthrop about 2 miles from Logan on the other side ofthe harbor. Authentic fresh seafood in a funky shack with about 10 seats on a counter. No CC either but the view is fun and the sea food is great.

I f you want a 3/4 lb lobster roll thatbeats anything in the area for only 18 bucks , take a taxi over and enjoy

Please note, only open till 7

That people here use terms interchangeably. Legal, Legals and Legal Seafood used in the responses are likely the very same Legal Seafood. I agree with those that say the Legal Seafood chain can run hot and cold, depending on the particular shop. The PRU Legal looks crowded, which is a good sign. Now, if us Yankees can just figure out whether we want to use grinder, sub, hoagie, torpedo to describe a specific sandwich.

I have Legal Seafood down here in the DC/MD area so I am actually looking for something a little less "chain" brandish. I do appreciate the suggestions though :- )

Licks,

Estelle

Go with what has been around since 1917, serving fresh fish.

You don't last that long without being pretty damn good!  If you are looking for upscale rather than great seafood, then go elsewhere.

The best lobster roll is found at Hooks's Lobsters.

They are near the seaport and are great sandwiches with interesting walking views on a nice day.

It's bit like the Texas Roadhouse of lobster, and it's child friendly. Not exactly the right vibe for a date.

I see somebody recommended noname. I'm sorry, maybe there's something that I don't get but I went there once, I can't remember the name of the dish I ordered but what I got was frozen shrimp and mixed vegetables that had been thrown around in a skillet for a while. Maybe I went on a night when something had gone horribly wrong or something.

I used to like naked fish, but I think that they've been closed for a while now. I had a good meal at Kingfisher Hall down by Qunicy Market. There's also the Union Oyster House is you want to get seriously Boston about it and sit at JFK's booth.

And Legals is good despite what the guy below says- it can get busy though

LTK (Legal Test Kitchen) down on the Waterfront is really good. You get offerings that aren't on their regular menu.  Prices are good too.

Im coming for a visit and now I have some places to check out! Love eating out when I travel. Well I just like to eat..

Great recommendations here of Seafood restaurants.

I have heard that Oishii Boston (Japanese/Seafood) is quite good. I am looking forward to checking it out when I visit.
