Agency threatening me.....need advice

There was a provider in town that I wanted to see recently and she was very high end and used an agency to screen / set up.  So I exchanged a few emails on Tuesday for a meeting later in the week.
Some things came up for work and Tuesday night and I could no longer keep the Friday appointment.  Now the agency preso. I was working with is threatening to call my work and "ruin my name", if I didn't show up and pay the full fee regardless.  They don't have a website so there is nothing I have ever seen for them regarding cancellation fees or obligations.  I know it sucks on their end but I tried my best to give ample notice and even work out another day.

I am single and not worried about it other than the fact that I'd like to not have my company wasting their time or getting annoyed with this crazy person at the agency.

I spoke to my lawyer about it and am considering a restraining order or law suit for harassment on this person but wanted to see if anyone else out here has been through this or has any advice.

Thanks

Many agencies do have such a policy so if you failed to read you should
adhere to their policy when you set up appt. if there is indeed one.

If there was no such policy or a cancellation fee was never discussed verbally or on website,
then tell them to fuck off
and post their shitty threats on every board you can.

No hobbyist wants drama!

Its not worth your time-  i think theyre bark is bigger than their bite.

Since theyr'e doing something illegal, i HIGHLY DOUBT they will do anything... some people are just not that bright.

it is NOT EASY to just get a restraining order-  (you have to feel threatened by your well-being, you feel scared for your life!!--- previous police reports, etc. etc etc etc.....)

I'm sure it will die down- You were considerate enough to give a cancellation notice.

 Warmest,
 samantha

Assuming you have perfectly characterized the exchanges, you need to let the board know the provider's name.  The ruining reputation thing is a two way street.  If she demands a significant donation for her time, none of us want any "drama".  Hopefully, said provider will realize this behavior is not good for business and will intervene.  Good luck.

It seems to be a common threat from crazy people who usually don't do anything, but some people are so screwed up that they may just speak with your work to be dicks. A cease and desist order basically tells them that if they slander your name to anyone you're associated with or contact you again then they will have to show up in court, which obviously they wouldn't do. Maybe ask your lawyer about a c&d. Do you mind PMing me the name of the agency? I'm sorry that happened, it's so petty :(

From a business perspective, hey would make more money in the long run if they were just understanding this time as you'd be more likely to be a regular customer.

Thanks so much for the support, guidance and input.

What a terrible experience!  I am not going to post the name of the agency on this board for the girls sake that work their but if she actually does contact my employer then it's light them the f up time.

Not really sure what contacting them would do anyways.  Why would my employer care that I 'allegedly" almost saw a "model"

If there was a cancellation fee that was discussed btw I'd have no problem paying it however this is a hoax and I will never ever use or even reach out to this agency ever.

Just trying to have fun and work got in the way....wish it was easier than this.

If that is the case simply respond that any further attempt on their part to extort money from you will be met with a criminal complaint being filed on them for attempted black mail and extortion.

It helps that you are single and therefore their threat is an empty one. I would laugh my fucking ass off at any who tried to 'blackmail" me. I am already "out" and thus "blackmail proof"

and you really should name the agency, this isn't about bad service or some other minor transgression, this is felony blackmail and the community should be warned. Can you imagine if you were married or had a job with a "morals clause" in your employment contract? Someday they are going to cause someone some serious harm, you have a chance to stop them. Use it.

There is no reputable agency nor indy that will risk their own well being    FACT

they get 400-500$ a night hotel in back bay and if at least one customer cancels it might make their trip to Boston unprofitable...this why they are very aggressive with cancellation fees and measures...

most people are big on words and would not risk their reputation... but the problem is you gave your info to agency that does not have any track record , so they do not have much to loose..what about the girl?why would she let the agency mistreat clients like this..

Tell them you gave plenty of notice, and to stop bothering you. Then ignore/block them from any other communication. They will likely just go away, as they are trying to shake you down.

If they call your work, deny, deny, deny, you know nothing about who they are.

Next time, protect your identity and don't put yourself in a compromising position!

both venting their anger at you and looking to make whatever they can ($$) from the situation.

Fact is you contacted them and cancelled. You did nothing illegal. They have zip on you, unless perhaps you have booked with them in the past and a session actually occurred.

You most likely already have basis to take legal action against them for harassment (state laws vary) and should they make good on their threats you most likely have the ability to take action against them for slander as well. Hopefully, you have some evidence to support what you say (email, phone, etc.. records).

Not to mention, you have the ability to blast them and their reputation here and other sites.

They have nothing to really gain, and much to lose.

I'll caveat this by saying I sincerely hope you DID read every word on their site(s) and are sure of their "cancellation policy"

Please refer to the post below .. Never ever ever ever give a agency your info..
