Can anyone recommend an advertising site that isn't cost prohibitive for someone who is very low volume (ie 1 or 2 per week)?

From what I hear it is free or low cost. Not sure how good it works.  

 
In my book TER is the best place to advertise.

but that is just me.

I've been advertising here, and while I've received a lot of responses, the majority aren't following through with appointments. Of those who do make appointments, 50% are cancelling last minute. Which is a really big hit when you're low volume, since I didn't schedule anything else for that day. I guess this is why I hear about so many girls double booking, but I really didn't want to do things that way.

In Boston and other major cities. No it's not a good thing but it does happen. Not much you can do about it.  

I know of one thing that might keep guys from booking with you is the fact you have no reviews. That makes things a lot tougher for you.  

New hobbyist have the same problem, they need references from a provider, but providers won't see them if they don't have reference. It's a vicious cycle, but one I know you can work thru.  

 
You did say you have seen some guys who are on TER, I would contact them and see if they will write a review for you.  
It will only help you if you can get a couple of guy who have seen you to write a review

 
Also there is a Boston Meet and Greet at the end of the month, you can contact the Mods and ask for an invite.
It's a good chance for you to meet some local guys and introduce yourself to them.  

Once they get a chance to meet you, more appointment should follow.  

augustwest is the guy you should contact, you can PM him thru TER.

P411, easy verification and the clients that book through there are a guaranteed appointment, most of the time. Create a web site, if you don't have one and establish yourself as a reputable provider and you are going to get less time wasters.
