Alias (in addition to being a pretty good television show allows you to create additional screen names for use in posting to TER messages boards. I don't see the point of this feature but, apparently some people like to post using an alias so that the link to the reviews that they've submitted won't attach to their message board post.
If you don't like the original user name you chose when you joined TER, why not use an alias. I stick with "thirsty" for the sake of continuity between here and TBD, but I wish I came up with something better originally.
As we're beginning to see more posting activity here, I've noticed a few people posting under multiple aliases. I understand that posters might try a few different handles until they find one that fits. No problem with that. It may well be that you would create an alias to post a secret fantasy, request or potentially embarrassing opinion. No problem with that. If I ever post my, "little red haired girl" fantasy, I won't post as "thirsty."
IMHO, it's best to stick with your user name or one alias. That way, as you build on your posting history, your opinion/advice will carry more weight with others.
Just understand, when you post using an alias, moderators can still see your actual user name. You can not hide behind an alias if you abuse the (few) posting rules. Don't worry, I'm not accusing anybody. This hasn't happened here, but just in case...
Since I've been moderator, I've only had to edit one post (removing personal information). This is a good group!
