Who is good with ropes in LA?

Sure, leather restraints or handcuffs certainly can do the job but, for me, nothing beats (heh) the feeling of being rendered helpless by an expertly woven web of tight, soft rope.

Unfortunately, being proficient in shibari and Kinbaku isn't a skill that many people (even many pro Dommes) possess.

Who are some of the best riggers/Dommes in the Los Angeles area?  Julie Simone had a good reputation, but she's left town, apparently.  And Nikki Nefarious has an impressive looking site but I can't find any reviews on her.

Any recommendations?

I'm going to open up your question to a broader audience who might want to know how to learn rope play but aren't necessarily based in L.A.

First up, everyone, let's talk about your bottoms/submissives . . .  A guest on the BDSM podcast (either Masocast or Freedom of Fetish) had an interesting "take" on the taxonomy/classification of those who love rope.  I might have forgotten the exact coined terms he used, but I believe it was:

(1) "strugglers", who want to be tied up and then proceed to struggle to get free, or they want to be tied so tightly that there's no possible hope for escape; that's the sort of thing you see in most of the fetish videos;
(2) "zoners", who get instantly quiet and go into sub-space almost from the moment rope caresses their skin; and;
(3) "aerialists", who love suspension bondage and turn it into a Cirque du Soleil trapeze performance; you (as the Top/Dominant) are almost irrelevant to them once they're successfully tied.

Learning with a real, live person is terrific.  I highly encourage it.  Threshold and some of the other L.A. area BDSM clubs have rope classes if you want to start there.  If you're in another big city, odds are that you have a BDSM club near you that also teaches rope.  This might be a good sort of query to post to FetLife.  The great thing about our "scene" is that people in it are often very charitable with their time and knowledge, and most love to teach newer players their skills.  (Kind of "paying it forward", since others taught them in the past.)

Exceptionally talented rope players are often known as "riggers".  While there are almost an infinite number of ways to tie someone, the good news is that almost everyone uses a few basic knots.  You might want to learn these first from the various YouTube videos out there before you start paying for an instructor: (1) square knot; (2) larks head; (3) overhand; and (4) double hitch.  Yes, there are others, but those are the most common ones.

As usual, I'm going to plug Kink Academy.  It's about $100/year, and they have instructional videos from Graydancer and others on all sorts of rope tying . . .  even basic suspension!

I think that I have to post each of these links separately, so this is going to turn into a long thread . . .

Now, if you don't want to pony up the money for The Kink Academy, Monk of Twisted Monk not only sells some amazing finished hemp rope in designer colors, and his website includes many how-to instructional videos for basic rope ties and it's 100% FREE OF CHARGE!

This is an Amazon link for the book by Chanta Rose "Bondage for Sex".  You'll possibly know Chanta from the adult website Chanta's Bitches and other Kink.com-type sites.  (When there's an edit in the scene and you see the submissive suddenly tied up, it was Chanta doing the tying.)

The Knotty Boys are also master "riggers" and have a couple of beautifully photographed books out there.  Strongly recommend this one.

Jay Wiseman wrote "SM 101" which is a must-have book for anyone who wants to get started in this.  While I give him lots of credit for that essential tome, there are those who feel that his rope instruction book might not be as good as some of the others on the market.

Okay, getting into Shibari right now, which is Japanese rope bondage.  Midori is one of the leading practioners in this area, so I'd be remiss in not suggesting her book first.  Midori lives in the San Francisco area, but frequently hosts classes here.  I think that she might have an intensive "boot camp" for riggers, if that's of potential interest to you.

Shibari You Can Use is another beautifully photographed rope instructional book, a good companion piece to the Two Knotty Boys book.  Highly recommended!

Okay, bear with me, just one more . . .

One of my friends turned me on to this book just this week.  I had never heard of this series before, but, flipping through the 3 books by this author, I was pretty impressed and ordered a set for myself.

Okay, that's my round-up for rope resources.  This was a long thread, but I'll just link to it in the future, the next time someone asks about rope.

i have played with Nikki Nefarious.  She is an incredible play partner.  i shot a dvd with her for Severe Society Films.  An A++++ time.  You can see her rope work on Rhianna's video "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but whips and chains excite me." If you see rope rigging in the video, Nikki did it.

You have to sift through the reviews and go directly to the providers sites to see if they can work their magic with the ropes....

I am a pro & I have an identical twin if you can handle double the pleasure..........
