I think you hit the nail on the head here. I don't think most guys realy want to talk about some of the things that happen in fetish only sessions...would you want to tell the TER world that you got not one but two diaper changes during your session?!?!

When I search reviews using the S&M tag I get a lot of hits but when I read the reviews I rarely see anything that even hints at why it is checked.

So, my question is, can anybody tell me where this information comes from? Does the provider herself ask that it be checked? That would tell me a lot if true.

My best guess is that it's a "garbage in, garbage out" problem (to use the computing term for bad data causing bad results).  If you offer a box that says S&M and the escort did something even remotely kinky, like allowing the hobbyist to lightly spank her behind or suck her toes, maybe that -- in most reviewers' minds -- qualifies as S&M and they tick the box when they do the review.

I'm not sure if TER will reply, but I asked someone higher up on the food chain about this.  (I'm just hobbyist volunteer.)

This was TER's response when I related your question:

The info comes from the reviewers when they submit the reviews or from problem reports, but I would go with the first reason for most cases. Providers can request that their profiles be updated via problem reports if they don't provide s&m also.

If a user sees a profile where there is no mention of s&m he is more than welcome to send in a problem report to ask the staff to update the profile. He will need to say that he read all the reviews and looked over her site and saw no references to s&m, so she most likely doesn't provide it.

escort available, massage available, s&m available, incall available and outcall available are all set to "Yes" by default. If the reviewer does not take the time to change it to no, it will indicate you provide s&m services whether it's true or not.

I've even heard of a few guys that didn't know what it meant, and instead of changing it, left it on because they did not want to exclude a service that they had not tried yet. Likewise, you'd probably see a lot more providers who were into rimming (true or not) if it wasn't automatically set to "Don't know".
