We went to munches, parties and events. I met people through classes initially. They're a great places to develop skills and make friends in a low pressure, relatively non-sexual environment. I concur with that. I've learned first by attending workshops, munches, and play events, then became mentored by two experienced male slaves. I personally didn't learn much from dominatrix's although I hang out in the same crowd. I chose not to approach BDSM with the nasty domme attitude. I learned a lot from slaves who were without owners at various times. That is when they are accessible.

There are only a few good ones out there, and a whole hell of a lot more that have no talent and are just in it to get laid. Most models know this, and won't see someone with a lackluster (or nonexistent) portfolio, moreso if he has no reputation and doesn't know anyone they know to vouch for him.
