How do you choose the right flogger over the internet?

I am new to this style of play and I am looking to update my toys. I currently only have a pair of 1 inch wide rabbit fur floggers. I am not very experienced but the rabbit floggers are too mild. Time for an upgrade.

My issue is while there is some stores that sell BDSM stuff here they mostly only have a small selection and they look and feel cheaply made. This leaves me with internet shopping. My biggest issue is I have not played with any floggers besides the rabbit ones so I don't know what I am looking for. How do you choose the right flogger over the internet?

Are you (or your bottom) looking for heavier, more of a thuddy flogging? Look for leather or elk, with lots of falls. Looking for a lighter, more stingy feel? Look for fewer falls, made from lighter materials. Keep in mind that the heavier the flogger, the more work it is going to take to flog with, so kepe your own comfort level in mind, as well as your bottom's.

Really the only way to know is to hold it in your hand and use it. Is there a kink community in your area? Many kinksters are also craftspeople, and make and sell floggers. I have custom made floggers, and if you find someone local to you you could have quite a bit of say in how they are made, etc. I wouldn't go through a general BDSM online store, instead look online for places that only do floggers. You might also check EBay, I have seen some really nice ones there :)

Good Luck !!

There really isn't active kink community in my area that I can find and I am new to this. This flogger is going to be used both buy me and on me. I was looking for a flogger that has a bit of thud but with some sting. Also as I am new to this I don't wan't it to be too intense, but the rabbit hide is not intense enough. It is great to warm up the area or for mind sensual play but I am looking for a bit more.

Thanks for the advise.

Unless you personally have tried out the entire line, then I would not recommend buying online.

If you need help I have plenty of toys & eXXXperience!

I really wish I could try some out or at least hold them but the only ones sold locally is the cheap stuff from China that looks like it is just glued together. I don't feel I have a choice but to turn to the internet.

Thanks though.

Even though you have a rabbit flogger, I would highly recommend that you e-mail the fine folks at BunnyFlogger.com.  Despite their name, they do all sorts of floggers.  I had them do a custom flogger for me last year, and it turned out great.

Just tell them that you're a newbie and see what they recommend for you.  In my opinion, you can't have it both ways -- you have to pick thuddy or stingy, because that's how they cut the ends of the leather strips.  Thuddy is more square with rounded corners.  Stingy is more triangle shaped.  I recommend thuddy.  Start with deerskin or something soft.  You'll have to decide which of you is going to be more likely to use it more often, because a flogger is often manufactured to have the handle length be appropriate for the height/arm length of the user.

P.S.  You are 100% correct that most floggers at sex stores are shit.

My very first flogger was from Jeanette Heartwood, purchased from her in her last year of manufacturing them personally.  Unfortunately, the process of manufacturing floggers (from all of the tight wrapping) can render the maker intensely arthritic, so they have to stop at a certain point.  It's the most treasured item in my collection.  I basically told Jeanette that I was a newbie and let her make most of the decisions for me.  She asked a few questions about my height/arm length and what sort of intensity I wanted, what colors I wanted, and then she was off to the races.

Unfortunately, Jeanette Heartwood sold her company, but I believe that the people who took over her business have the same commitment to creating the highest-quality floggers, so I feel safe recommending them as well.  This is the Sony or Cadillac of floggers, if you want a toy that will last a lifetime and perform brilliantly.  (A good flogger makes the user look better than they actually are.)

I was looking online at the floggers and it was a bit confusing. Reading those articles helped. I bought my bunny floggers online at one of the sites you recommended as A' recommended I start with a pair of bunny floggers and you recommend the site before. I was happy with the quality. Thanks for the info.

i own a pair of deerskin floggers and moose skin floggers by him.  Everybody loves the perfect balance, knots, quality, and they are made the length you want.

i'd be happy to hook you up.

But I already placed my order for the for my new flogger. I decided to go with a 50- 18" x 1/2" tailed  elk flogger from Heartwood.

I will keep him in mind next time I go shopping. Thanks.

May you enjoy your flogger.

i had a cabinet with rack built in my home to hold all the different floggers i own.  i love flogging.  i love floggers.  The different skins all have a different smell and texture and feel to them.  i love having them caress my body, fan me lightly, pull over my face and body, and the build of lightly slapping to biting into the flesh.  Going from deer, elk, moose, cow to bison can be an incredible invigorating time, followed by a bunny skin soothed over, the /marks/welts for very intimate moments. mmmmmmmmm, rapture.

enjoy, as many good times await you.
