I sense a slight bias:
“The more empirical evidence we have, the better understanding we’ll get,” said Sheldon Zhang, a sociologist at San Diego State University. “It is the same as in the medical model. If you think that cancer is a problem, a serious problem, you need to invest money to understand it.”
So the researchers already know what they want to find (basically that every sex worker was abused as a child) and, believe me, they will find it.
I live Intown in Atlanta. I see trans prostitutes that work on their own. But where are all these pimps and street walkers. I know they exist to some degree but the report makes it sound like something out of 'Looking for Mr. Goodbar'.
Americans are obsessed with judging and shaming women in sex work but everyone is fine with guys getting their rocks off to porn because 'boys will be boys'.
And it wasn't in the NYT article but the endgame of all these groups is to tie sex work to human trafficking. Once they pull off that trick, the government will throw money at them so they can publish more bullshit, unscientific reports.
