Thought I would take the time, especially for anyone new to the hobby, to pose the question of what exactly should be expected from a true professional.
I understand that everyone should be concerned about cleanliness and safety. What are some of the other "issues" that might be considered when you throw that word around so much?
There are just so many stories out there of such outrageous antics. Wow, probably enough for a book! That would make great reading. I guess there are probably plenty of warnings that could go along with that as well. Maybe some of the other Hobbyists may want to add to your comments from their years of experience.
A few specifics come to mind especially in regards to all of the events in 2001 when a specific computer became a calling card for that big ole agency that was all about contacting anyone & everyone that ever had anything to do with that specific "Party". Made one take pride in knowing true professionals then. Ewww, I may be showing my age!
So I was giving some of the more experienced the space to truly define a courtesan. After all, the basics should be expected. What truly sets apart your definition?
I expect a true professional to be well groomed, be able to accompany me to a business dinner and fit in with the group. In other words she knows that Chanel is not what you change on the television. I am only interested in seeing ladies that can carry on an intelligent conversation on numerous subjects, from sports to politics to business.
This is someone that I could leave in my home and not have to worry about anything being missing when I returned. In the past I have left "bait" to see whether or not there were any rats in my place. In other words, someone that I can treat as I would a wife or girlfriend for the time that she is in my company, with us both knowing that this is a professional relationship.
I have been lucky over the years and had true friendships with providers where I gone to their homes to keep them company on evenings when they were returning emails to prospective clients.
The term has taken on new meanings. The courtesans of old were servants to the kings and princes and others of the aristocracy.
They were at the beck and call of their "masters", in a way, they were sex slaves.
In today's society, at least to my way of thinking, the courtesan is a provider who tailors her abilities to the client. She can converse with him in an intelligent way, make him happy, have whatever beverages that she knows he likes, relieve his tensions and sexually perform in the manner that he enjoys. She should provide an environment in which he can enjoy her attributes. She should dress elegantly, smell good, look good and taste good. As the old saying goes, we want women of good taste as well.
Now, you ladies, don't start screaming, because we (the clients) know that we can't expect to get a courtesan for 250, or 500 for an hours entertainment. However if we were paying the lady 5000. per week we could expect to have a courtesan.
I think that each hobbyist has his own definition of a courtesan, and that's all that matters. As we say YMMV.
I happen to know a courtesan in ATL. She's my courtesan. She makes me laugh! We talk about all kind of things. She's a kind lady, a practical, thinking lady, and a terrific lover. What more could a guy want? "And that's all I have to say about that".
No, I'm not finished, she has the softest lips and she's an awesome kisser. I think I've gotten off the subject, but that's what I do.....nice rack too.

Wood, would you consider hiring me as a screener, and if the provider can pass my examination, I would recommend her to you.
The examination fee would be paid by the provider to the examiner. It would only cost the lady 50.00 which she could, in turn, pass it along to you. I think that is a terrific idea.

Just slip on a teddy, and a leather trench coat, I'll meet you at the airport, and we'll be off. First stop, London. We'll have breakfast, and then to Paris where we'll have mixed doubles... if we can find a couple Frenchies who have bathed recently, dinner in Rome or Athens (your choice) and finally to bed in Istanbul, after, of course some Turkish delights, and champagne, then the nite is ours. Just gotta love a man who "Says it like it is" I adored the honesty of how he looks for rats! And to think all this time, some of us were under the impression that the description that you gave was considered a GFE experience rather than a courtesan. I guess by that logic a courtesan in today's society could actually be the same as a contract mistress. Interesting, but come to think of it, I didn't really think that much had changed.
I guess I'll stick by my impressions: GFE- encounter w/a gentleman leaving him feeling like he just revisited an old lover PSE- a great F*ck that left you knowing you were still a man and a "quickie"- that release you needed to get through this week.
I'll leave the "courtesan" experience to that weekend get away were we both know what we are expecting.

A true courtesan has all the "professional" qualities, is cultured, witty and intelligent. For me at least, one other attribute distinguishes a courtesan--the ability to inspire, whether that be lovemaking or poetry. Like the muse, one revels in the glow and that is reflected back on your qualities.
Only one, maybe two courtesans I've known.
