When is someone a racist? When they acknowledge there is a race difference or when they make a judgment based on it? Or is it when they buy into a stereotype? How about when they give a race preferential treatment?

I am an aging guy who grew up with busing etc. I have used the "N" word. I wasn't racist, it was what I was taught. I have come to understand and agree with the negative aspect of the word and I believe we are all given an equal chance to be productive quality people or pieces of shit hanging on society regardless of race, creed or color.
Personally, the request the guy makes is offputting to me, but I don't know if its racist because we don't know WHAT or WHY the session he is seeking is. It may be wonderful...I don't know.
Institutional racism is dying, not dead by any means but dying, I think that's almost proven. Personal racism is alive and well, but I hope and believe also on the decline. If we are ever going to get there, in my dopey opinion, we have to be able to acknowledge the difference, but then ignore it. It's visual for damned sure.
Some prefer white providers, some latina, some black...are they racist for having a preference?
I didn't vote for Obama, am I racist or can I cast a vote based on what I believe to be a glaring lack of qualifications?
