Gee, thanks for the screaming response! Now, this is in no way a slam to Bill, but I feel that now I must say a little more about this.
Having been involved with helping plan a few of, and attending most of the M&Gs from the past couple yrs, I was just offering a simple little reason that I have heard from a lot of attendees, and some who couldn't/can't attend, about the days chosen for these events.
And, as my esteemed colleague, Coyote, has listed in his response, please feel to free to host an event. I'm sure our usual organizer would welcome a chance to be able to be just an attendee instead of planner, booking agent, depositor, organizer, checker of people's references, accountant, security director, cuisine consultant, administrator and administrative assistant, message center, sorter, filer, secretary, typist, florist (nice touch--roses for the lady attendees), writer, director, producer, HOST, etc, etc, etc, and be able to just spend his whole time there doing what you would be doing anyway--meeting and socializing with the ladies, and not worrying about anything but how good a time he was able to have. THANKS JIMMY!!!!!!!!

Just asking so I do not have to eat up a whole week of vacation for one night... I know it sounds pathetic but jobs are hard to come by these days and yes, I do make a good living at what I do.
I agree 100%. I have attended before, but have had to miss several because of the weekday time. That being said, they are awesome.

I don't know for sure, but i would guess Friday and Saturday are prime times for bars, so the chance of getting a bar to set aside an area for the M&G would be impossible. Just my guess.
Also, for more of the men with SO's or wives, a weekday is easier to just pop by after work and use the 'working a little late' excuse.
Imagine a married man on a Saturday night trying to come up with a reason to go out without the family or wife, and not giving her an excuse to have his pillow on the couch when he gets home, or wonder what he is up to.
As for someone using a week vacation, they are usually early week, so maybe just a 'sick day' or 2 would do it.

Another good idea is using a hotel meeting room where a cash bar can be set up as a private affair with catering... This was done in May 2009 at Orlando M&G which went off at at a resort Holiday Inn GREAT complete with a DJ and dancing !

2. You also forget ladies who typically don't prefer to be away from their families on a weekend -OR- who have otherwise filled agendas. For most - it is either family night or a good work night.
3. Interesting you would reference the Orlando 2009 event - did you attend? I don't recognize your handle (and um, that with respect to Atlanta M&G's, perhaps I should?) I have no way of knowing your posting history, but typically we need at least two verifiable references for attendance and I note you have one.
4. AtlMtgOrg goes to a lot of effort hosting (putting on) these M&G's that works best for the majority of people. Frankly, the days picked are often not the best for him, but since they are the best for the majority - that is the date picked.
5. I shall make sure he knows of your generous offer, typically a gaurantee or deposit is required to reserve a place, very nice of you to volunteer to fund that if we find a weeknight works best.
6. You can always host your own M&G.
7. For at least the past two years (maybe longer) the requests for attendance has been growing with each event, so the events must be doing something right.
8. The last time such an event was held at a hotel - it was deemed too public and many ladies did not feel comfortable attending.
9. For all - I can tell you that as the events grow and new people are included with each time (I "believe" we had more M&G guy newbies at the last one than in the past five such events) the events are taking much more effort to put on. The point is that new input is welcomed and appreciated - but it is becoming more and more a thankless role for one of our more respected gent...meaning he is hearing a lot more of - "should have done this or that" vs "thank you for the effort that was done."
10. These events are about networking, socializing and fun folks, let's not lose sight of that.

Sorry for the caps COYOTE its just the frustration with the constant weeknights situations and always concerns for the family and NEVER concerns for the single people.
I changed my screen name 1 year ago for security upgrade after the Minneapolis board had a le infiltration scare. I really do list out of area and fly into Florida and now Atl just for the hobby. I have just recently obtained business situations in Atlanta so the move is proceeding.
My references are complete and just completed a great M&G (one of the first ones in South Florida in Ft. Lauderdale) this last Sept. PM me and I will set up confident established references.....
It must be great for Hobbyists and Providers to be in a great metropolitan place for the hobby. I am currently in rural USA and will not leave to security of a incredible job income during this economic uncertainy.... more important than any family memeber is the ability to put food on the family memebers table. Sorry for the cap its just the frustration of hearing the same line over and over and over when I just do not believe it anymore after 3 M&G where women flew into Ft. Lauderdale fron Las Vegas for the M&G and providers drove ACROSS the state to attend...
Not one was with family concers it was about good times and contact/networking.
My offer still stand for a Saturday night allwing flights to take place Friday and Sunday... Also I would help long distance with screening and setting up..
