Just some polite advice today.  Please don't tell me that we bought you a new floor, a new car or paid for your awesome vaction to the islands.  Most of us work hard for our money and its not good customer service.  

Imagine a sales man pulling up in a new corvette, telling me how bad business is so I laugh when the following week, he pulls up in his new mercedes and I see him later that week in his BMW...I don't think business is too bad.  Get it? Maybe best to keep some things to yourself???

I saw one woman on another forum talk about all the things she had bought, the one that irritated me the most was when she brought up buying a  large 3D tv. Don't ask why, it just did and I found the lack of class appaling and ironic since she had touted that she was a woman of class. Those with class never speak of money or materialistic items except when it comes to business and making a deal.

I had a boss once who owned the company, and while he owned a Jag, he drove his Caprice Classic to the plant as not to throw his own wealth in his workers or clients faces. Now that was class.

It clearly shows a person's level of class, or lack thereof.

1) Owner of a company I worked for actually made a big deal about little plastic container for lemons.

the conversation went like this:

me: oh,this is kind of cute,where did you get it?

owner: it does not really matter ...this costs 5 bucks a piece

me: oh, next time you are in that store, could you get me a couple?

Look on his face was priceless ...

2nd .. is something I read on the boards.  Person actually bragged about buying 1/2 a carat diamond earrings for his SB in the same store that sold ....KITTY LITTER

People brag about stupid material shit all the time, usually simply because they have nothing else to be proud about.

I WORKED ( passed tense ) at a company with around 40 people I guess .
Every year in May we all had a one on one " reviews "  with the owner , and your once a year raise .

Three straight years the owner / company was VERY profitable . She was a black owner and getting MANY contracts ( gov't ) due to affirmitive action legislation - don't get me started on that one !
She praised us at every little crappy company BBQ held in the companies large vehicle install bay . She would actually have a little speech to announce the growth numbers and profit margins and all that crap . We are talking growth in the 20% yearly range , equating to millions .

First year - nobody got a raise , but her boob job was sweet !

Second year - nobody got a raise but she was looking for any male employess to help her move to her new house in a VERY exclusive part of town .

Third year - nobody got a raise in May and in June she pulls up in a brand new Rolls Royce - I SWEAR !!!! Did not even think to just keep the 5 series BMW for driving to work - GGeezzz .......

I don't know what happened the fourth year

office window and saw all the high dollar cars in the Rep parking lot. He said there is 1.5-3% off our costs sitting right there, get rid of the reps and they did ( somewhat).

Brag away huh ? If you think that's the way then you're not too smart and you've never met an old Jewish merchant in a wrinkled rack suit schlepping sample cases. If you ever do ask him how business is. When he gives you his sob story just know he has more money than God stashed away. He saves his flashy when he's kicked back at his place in Aruba far from the eyes of his customers.  

Mr. ..always kept a low profile.. Carlo Gambino died of old age at home while watching the Yankees on TV and flashy Gotti died rotting away in a federal pen.

Sometimes people just don't know better.  When the economy took a crap, a lot of people lost it all.  It wasn't because they had so much but because of how they got it.  I could brag about all the cool shit that I have but the point is that I only have what I can afford in any economy.  I'm guessing what you're noticing is the lady that has all sorts of cool stuff but is now suffering from the economic downturn.  Perhaps she's a foolish spender, but it's not like that's an exclusive trait of providers.

Hmmmm you mean to tell me that you both made boatload of money AND reduced my non monetary compensation?

Same executive was responsible for email that announced "effective January 1st we are reducing transit checks from 100 to 50 dollars a month" followed by "we just imported rare Japanese carps for the pond"  

Some things you don't put in same e mail ...

Reminds me of a recent post I saw on facebook stating that if it were true that corporate profits meant more American jobs, that every single American should be employed right now, with no one working for minimum wage.  The 1% really does own this country and spin the media to show what they want us to see so we stay stupid and satiated with the newest reality Tv show and Kim Kardashian's boobs.

If someone is bragging about the material things, it could be a sad case of insecurity and that person not even knowing who they are.  How a person defines themselves, weather they do it consciously or sub subconsciously speaks volums about how they value themselves.  If a person defines themselves by materialt things, they have problems greater than anything they could buy.

Would it make you feel better if she said she can't meet her ends, her children are hungry, or that she drunk money away? It's not what she said, it's sometimes how you take it. I'm personally happy for other people's happiness and wellness; and I feel their pain if they're hurt. But that's just me.
