I assume you mean tracking from a SO and not the government.  I just turn my location off if I'm somewhere I'm not supposed to be for an extended period of time and make sure my Google settings don't store my places visited.  But I'm an Android user so it may be different with Apple products.

That seems like a major hassle

I have been known to pick up a friend from a safe location for him.  It’s really no different than running out for food, just much more enjoyable.   Adds a kink to it as well.  

Most of my friends actually leave their regular phone at their office or home and just take their hobby one when going out to partake in adult pleasures... That way it does not show you have deactivated gps.   Of course Huntsville is not as big as Atlanta and the traffic is not so bad.
