Sometimes, It's Not Easy

One of the reasons I don't get to hobby as much as I like is financial.  I don't know how some of you guys do it but more power to you.

2 questions -

1 - Even though I manage the family finances, I must be careful not to leave an obvious trail.  $$$ withdrawals certainly look suspect.  How do the rest of you non-single hobbiests handle this?

2 - How do you use a credit card (non-personal card so must turn in receipts)to either pay or draw or convert to cash (my preference) without drawing attention?

Any input appreciated.  Thanks.

I'm with you, I sure don't hobby as much as I used to, even with all the specials, it's hard to hide $$$ these days.  I like the idea of a plan and a budget--that's how I do it!

Fortunately, I handle all the finances with my own credit and own banking account.  My wife has a part time job.  I cash her checks and she does whatever she wants with her money.  We have completely separate finances.

Dude- take care of the Mrs-so she never has a reason for suspicion, buy here a mercedes, keep her credit cards under the limit- and never waste your cash on mediocrity-you might always get caught by her, but isn"t the risk of it all a boner? LOL

I am self-employed, which makes it a LOT easier... I can see where a paycheck situation would make things a lot more difficult.

If you have an expensive hobby (I mean, visible hobby) you can "wrap" your mongering hobby within it... there are a lot of cases where you need cash for, say, marinas, or antique dealers, etc. Start collecting antique books, maybe (something your SO has a sense would be expensive but has no idea the values involved), then for every $10k cash you spend maybe 2-3k on books... turn around and sell them on ebay to recoup - who knows, you might actually make a profit. If you don't like books, choose sports memorabilia, whatever, its just a creative solution. Basically, you need to reverse-launder your money...

Depending on your skillset, you could freelance on the side and keep the proceeds separate from your family coffers.

Don't use a credit card ebver, obviously.

O.
