When he was filming "My Fellow Americans" here in Asheville he used to come to the speedway on Friday nights for the races and would take as much time as needed with fans taking pictures and signing autographs. I've had the pleasure, and more times the displeasure, of meeting quite a few movie stars and celebrities and more times than not they are complete self-centered assholes. Kurt Russell comes immediately to mind. Garner was kind, humble and generous with his time and made everyone he met feel special.

That ws one of rhe main reasons why he was so popular.

He was always down-to-earth, never felt he was better than the people who were paying to watch him perform.
