Stang have you got anything more to support X as a cross symbol becomming integrated with Christmas, long before modern print-promotional abbreviations? Resurrection, which never before occured, has always trumped birth, which commonly occurs...blending the two implies an incomprehensible misunderstanding of millions of people for hundreds of years that would seem to negate history.
Hello everyone!!
I will have hours of availability on Thursday and Friday of this week, and will be running a special to commemorate the observance of September 11th. (as a New Yorker, it's not a day I let pass by without noticing.)
I will be scheduling visits between 11 AM-4 PM on both days, and my rates (for these days only) are $200 for an hour visit, or $300 for a two-hour visit. I will give scheduling preference to those I have seen in the past, but, as always, am more than happy to make new friends if my schedule allows.
Please feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] if you've any questions, or would like to set up a time to visit.
I hope that everyone is well, and enjoying the onset of autumn here in ATL....
*Hugs*,

Not trying to start a fight, but this is really inappropriate.
I think we all do things in different ways...I do not see anything wrong with this post...I actually posted in my yaho group that we could make our own memories on this day and I was judged for that as well...
Many people(myself included) find peace of mind in a great sexual experience it is comforting just to have someone close by on a sad day...
NOW if you want to get me started on what is not appropriate I can surely do that as well...
How about when people type in X-Mas for Christmas?
Just my opinion not that it really matters to anyone...
xoxoxo
TO ALL
HEIDI
Well, it might be in poor taste to you, but Xmas has a long tradition, starting long before any of us saw it on store windows or in newspaper ads. The "X" was used to symbolize the cross as Christ hauled it through the street on the way to the crucifixion. It's been used for hundreds of years.
I'm with Heidi on this one. I feel a little twinge everytime I see it used instead of Christmas. That isn't the reason for the X. That may be the justification Xians buy into for putting it on their First Church of X bulletin board, but that X is another step down into the secularization of a religious celebration. Every year, Xmas has less and less to do with the birth of the Nazarene and more and more to do with a fat old guy and the economy. We've already removed Christ from the name, and we're well on our way to divesting him of any connection to the celebration of his birth.
the leather straps used to keep the cross together along with the nails used to build it.
Some say the leather had glass in it so when Jesus brought his head up it would cut the back of his head. Although it was next to impossible since they broke his ribs and stabbed him in the chest.

As I remember learning of its use, it was a holdover from times when most of Christendom was both Catholic and illiterate. Using the symbol of the cross, it means the Mass of the Cross. I've found conflicting origins from reference sources, but all agree that it's been in use for hundred of years. Check out some of these sources.
from www.didyouknow.cd:
The word "Christmas" means "Mass of Christ," later shortened to "Christ-Mass." The even shorter form "Xmas" - first used in Europe in the 1500s - is derived from the Greek alphabet, in which X (chi) is the first letter of Christ's name: Xristos, therefore "X-Mass."
from Random House online:
Usage. The abbreviation XMAS for Christmas dates from the mid-16th cent. The X is the Greek letter chi, the initial in the word Xpi s t ós (Christos) "Christ." In spite of a long and respectable history, today XMAS is objectionable to many, perhaps because of its associations with advertising. It is not used in formal writing.
from bible.org:
The Microsoft Bookshelf dictionary has this to say:
Xmas has been used for hundreds of years in religious writing, where the X is understood to represent a Greek chi, the first letter of CrstoV, “Christ”; in this use it is parallel to other forms like Xtian, “Christian.” But the letter X, or especially x, is nowadays more frequently interpreted as a mathematical variable than as a Greek letter, as indicated by the common pronunciation of the form Xmas as (eks mass). Thus, while the word is etymologically innocent of the charge that it omits Christ from Christmas, it is now generally understood only as an informal shortening. In an earlier survey 88 percent of the Usage Panel rejected the use of Xmas in writing (The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Third Edition copyright © 1992 by Houghton Mifflin Company. Like it or not, it's been around a lot longer than any of us. And is probably more reputable, too.
....although I have no idea how the original post drifted to this subject.
Seeing as how most others have decided to take this thread into a whole different direction with the X and Christ and all that, I thought I'd stick to what you are saying.
And my question is, what are you saying? How is this inappropriate? I don't see how it is or could be considered to be in any way shape or form. Angelique has discounted her rates on a day that changed the world as we know it. SO WHAT!?
She's from New York, and I would bet Sept. 11 affected her probably more so than many others who have never even been to the Big Apple. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that she lost some friends that day. If she wants to set some dates to not be alone on that day, and decides to run her business the way she sees fit and offers a reduced rate ... then more power to her. I didn't want to be alone that day either, and there are several other days of the year when I dislike being alone. I think she's doing herself, and her dates a little favor. And it's certainly a lot better than price gouging people.
It's her business. Would you also consider it inappropriate for any other business to lower their rates on Sept. 11? Say you get $50 off your grocery bill. Or $50 off car repairs. Is that inappropriate too? No. Lady Angelique is no different.
I suppose if she took the day off to reflect & remember then people would complain about that as well. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Personally, if I were in Atlanta, she's certainly on my list of ladies to see, no matter what day of the year it is.
Jimbo
Did I say she couldn't run her business the way she wants?? I can't find that in my comments.
What I did say is that this is in poor taste. Sales are generally reserved for joyous days such as Christmas (note spelling). You asked if I would find it offensive if others
had sales on Sep 11th. If they advertised them, I would definately find it offensive, but if you haven't noticed,
there aren'e really any out there. Looks like all the
businesses have already figured out what you have not yet.
Thank you for understanding....*smiles*
I am sorry that this offended people. That was certainly not my intention. However, those of you who know me on a more personal level know that this year, rather that making September 11th a day of mourning, I felt it right to make it a day of celebrating all the beautiful things in the world, all the freedoms and ideals so many people gave their lives for. I wanted it to be a day filled with compassion, closeness, and love for our fellow human beings. For me, the best way to pay respects to those who suffered in the attacks and the aftermath of September 11th (and yes, I am a Nuyorican who was affected very deeply by the tragedy...my old apartment was 20 blocks from the WTC.)is to remember to fill our lives with love and appreciation, and to bring beauty into the world.
I try, in most everything I do, to bring a bit of kindness and beauty to the world, and to other people. That's the reason I offered a special that day (which I don't often do)..though perhaps the way I worded it caused it to come off as something offensive, and I apologise if that was the case.
I actually did not see this post until today (I guess that tells you how out of the loop I am on this site..or just how hectic life has been.
), or I would have addressed it earlier.
You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but those of you who know me know I am as sensitive as they come, so this thread was rather a shock to me to read! *laughs*
And,yes,Jimbo, you're more than welcome to give me a call whenever you're in town!
