And the Braves keep wasting everyone's time, always falling short....And keep the highest payroll argument to yourself. The Yankees have an Owner willing to do any and everything within the system to win. They pay the most in luxury taxes AND revenus sharing - everyone get's fat off the Yankees. Mr. Steinbrenner is rewarded with a MLB record attendance this season of over 4 million fans. The Braves still can't sell out a playoff game.

~It is sad to think with the payroll of the Yankess' that they haven't been able to ..."buy" a few more World Series Titles~
(Besides that- we never know who will be the starting rooster for the Yankees because their positions always seem to be available to any player wiling to "sell out" to them)At least some of the other team try to grow talent and enjoy the game. I am all for the American way, but you might want to check your facts on the Yankees, it's my limited understanding that everyone doesn't get fat from their team. They have specific guidelines- (unique to the Yankees alone) governing their ticket sales and revenue sharing. Not exactly the American Idea of sharing the fat with everyone- (to use you words)   just my take on them ... kisses ~T

Seems they (*by far*) should be the best team money can buy....

Sure, its trendy (go ahead - jump on the bandwagon!), but oh so obnoxious.  *ALL* professional teams are bought and paid for!!  That's why its called a "PROFESSIONAL" league.  If the total payroll is all anyone bases his/her opinion on, then yeah, the Yankees should be the best team every year.  But obviously, money isn't the only ingredient to great baseball, is there?

It would be great if everyone stopped whining about the Yankees' payroll and instead, focused more on the fact that there is a lot of young talent out there, in the hands of some great coaches & managers, and hardly ANY of them play/work for the Yankees.  Do you mean to tell me none of these other teams are in the game to win?  Well, besides the Mets, of course.  But I digress...  They're all in it to win.  And no matter how much you pay certain players, that obviously doesn't guarantee a damn thing.  More money doesn't make a player more skilled.  It just makes him spoiled and, hopefully, more loyal to his team.  The Yankees have a pretty powerful roster, but they don't and *can't* have everyone!

I LOVE the Yankees!!!

I don't *hate* the Redsox.  Or the Braves.  Or the Whitesox.  Or even the Angels now (though you know the Cardinals are gonna pummel them, if LA even makes it that far).  What's the point??  And, I have a lot of respect for greatness.  But some of the fans sure make it tough.

Go ahead anyone.  Flame me now if you want.  Debate the whole money issue.  It "aint" gonna matter one bit, or change my mind.

Girl, you got me started again. While I am not a Yankee hater, it was funny to watch the Yankees in the playoffs with $45m in payroll not on the playoff roster.  It was also funny to see Jared Wright implode with more injuries a year after Leo Mazzone resurrected his career.  The Yankees tried to dump kevin Brown and his bad arm and attitude on the Braves last winter but Juhn S. was too smart.  Kyle Farnsworth is a free agent and would look good in the Yankee's pen.

Now Tori, you are being too harsh on the Yankees. They have home home grown players, Derek Jeter and "the fossil" Bernie Williams!
LMAO, the Yankees do not share tv revenue for their own network which is where the bulk of their income stream is derived.

Face facts people..bought or not, the New York Yankees are the most successful franchise in the history of professional sports, not just baseball, in all of professional sports. Mr. Steinbrenner puts the best teams on the field year in, year out. So what they don't always win. Since 1996, they have won four titles. Some people posting don't even know the foundation of the championship teams of the 90's and how they were mostly homegrown. Big deal they spend more money. Big deal they have their own network. Considering 4 million people checked in at Yankee Stadium this season, Mr. Steinbrenner is doing something right. GO YANKEES!!! Kacey, you rock!

I disagree with you Miss Cummings. Yes, all teams are bought and paid for. But, there are several teams in the League that actually develope their own talent and do not take the short cut of merely trying to hedge experience and dedication for larger contracts.
I understand most statements made about the Yankees payroll stems from the occurance of many individuals investing the time and efforts into developing talent that is then sold to an organization, such as the Yankees, that has a history of side stepping developement in favor of quick results. To associate this type of behavior with that of placing a band aid on a gapping wound.
The long term effect is an unbalance in athelets performing on the same level. Your reference to young talent being developed by dedicated trainers, coaches and managment is at the base of the disgruntled fans who coment about the Yankees practise, so your reference eluded the relevance to me.
The fact is the local team in Atlanta has a reputation for taking the young talent that you referred to and developing it into a formidable competitor. As witnessed by the past several years. This organization has also been instrumental in adding to the game of baseball and continuing our Country's favorite pass time.
By your own statements, it should be obvious to you why many individuals associated with Baseball have a problem understanding a Team that continually scouts talent and is best known for their ability to sign a check.
I personally believe if there were more teams like the Yankees that the level of competition would be decreased in direct proportion to the level of effort to develope from within each individual organization. A possible overall effect would be Baseball as a whole would suffer.

It was mentioned earlier in the thread that the Yankees operate within guidelines, in regards to ticket sales and revenue sharing, with a unique policy that is practised only by them. I believe it is this type of refusal to distribute the profits to a larger number of individuals who support and encourage the growth of baseball that adds to the general disgruntal of the teams behavior. Your comment that all teams are in it to win is contradictory to the behavior of the Yankees, winning may be a side effect of their desire to capatilize on our Nations favorite pass time. I believe it is this attitude that has been more of the inspiration to the "whinning" as you refer to it by so many true Baseball Fans.

If the game is played as it was originally introduced the the excitement of each home town community to witness the developement of a team and the rise of players would be evident across the Country. But, with a few select teams focusing solely on the financial gains of the sport without contributing to it's continued growth, you are left with organizations who now have the reputation of developing and caring on the sport.

Just my insight on some of that "obnoxious" band wagoning behavior of those true Baseball Fans, that you focused on and some of the reason and logic behind their complaints. I think their concern will stem more from a love of the Game itself and their concern for the longevity of the sport than their sole interest in their favorite team's performance.
