Can any of you assist me with a hairy question I have?  Or should I say a non-hairy question?  I am thin and in good physical shape (I do the Peachtree each year), but I’m also as bald as a baby’s butt.  It’s been many years since I had a full head of hair and frankly, I’m tired of it.  I’ve been doing some research, but all I see is what I would consider sales pitches.  I then had a thought, “Maybe someone on TER can give me good advice”.

Any advice on transplants?  Where do I go?  What should I expect?  Are there other options?  I have been bald for many years so I doubt pills or anything I would rub into my scalp would help.  Besides, I don’t like taking drugs of any kind, even if they are from a doctor.

Ladies, if you know anyone who has a good experience with this I’d like to hear from you as well.

Check this place out in Florida.  Do lots of looking around and be careful of the sales pitches.

I hate to see you try to do something unnatural. I happen to love a bald head. I even love balding heads. Good luck but I say you stay the way you are!

*wink*

Dude,

I feel for you.  No man wants to be bald.  Its crap for a man or woman to say so or its sexy or whatever.

I slowly started loosing my hair at 17. While never going bald, I did have thinning and receding hair by the time I was 23.  I had tried Rogain in college.  No dice.

Then at 23, I made the big jump at started the process of hair transplants.  I did a lot of research (this was 18 years ago).  Like lasik (vision correction), you only get one shot at this.  So, I opted for the most expensive place with the highest reputation at the time, a place reportedly to have done the "stars".

Bosley Medical Group in California.  I had 4 procedures.  While the procedure sucks . . . its not painful . . . but it is still surgery . . . and the donor area did take weeks or a couple of months to heal (its like a serious cut that scabs and take a while to heal . . . don't get the wrong idea . . . its not too bad)  I was very happy with the end result.  It did the rick for 10 years.

Over time, however, my hair receded and thinned further.  So, I needed to make some more investments.  Haven't gotten around to it yet for a variety of reasons.

I do plan on it though within the next year or so.  There have been major improvements.  It used to be that they would transplant areas of your scalp about 1/8 of an inch in diameter.  If you had really dark hair, which I don't, then this didn't look perfectly natural . . . good though and the average person wouldn't have noticed that you had had a transplant.  Today, however, the best transplant single folicles.  This results in near perfect results.

I'm not entirely sure how current Bosley is on this procedure.  Check them out.  The place that I believe is the best is NewHart.  I've been to there "open house" and was impressed.

By the way, I wouldn't go near the place posted above.  The guys site has a "testimonial" page which is bland and he has only three head shots which are nothing to be excited about.

Good luck

I worked for a company that was very strick on facial hair and dress for 29 years. As soon as they layed me off (1 week later) I shaved my head. I like it that way and I will never go back.
It gets some attention, some good and some bad.
Good luck with your decision.
