I was notified that a virus is being spread through computers with the following specifics:
The subject of the email will read:  "WTC Survivor" I have had several emails warning of the impending course of this virus. The virus infiltrates address books and will forward from the infected account to all email address' in the book. This virus, if opened into your computer will corrupt and destroy hard drive programs & literally disable your computer. At present the virus is not registered with McAfee or Norton, which poses even more of a risk to computer users.
**If you receive an email from anyone, even your mother, lover, sister, brother, etc... that has "WTC Survivor" in the subject line, do not open it!! There is a strong possibility that it did not originate from the person that you recognize.  kisses  Candace

Candace...  Do you remember the story of Chicken Little?  You are absolutely a doll, and my kinda lady, but spreading such rumours. Shame, shame.

~With the information that I received I only thought I was helping~  IF YOU ARE SUCH A COMPUTER GUY .. I just bet either Becki or Haven would be your biggest fan if you helped them out. -PLUS- my take on it was better safe that sorry. When I was contacted about this virus I made an inquiry and the reply I got was:--"doom, mydoom variant
Yeah, that's another variant of mydoom. It's a real pain even if you don't use windows, because all your buddies' infected systems flood your inbox with junk mail that tells you your system has been compromised and you need to use the attached zip file to fix it (don't, by the way, even if it looks like it's from your ISP, your company's IT staff, etc)."--

Besides what are the odds that you would receive an email with that subject line unless it was in fact  someone trying to share the virus? If I was a true computer person & was trying to pass a virus I think the easiest way would be to copy one already previously deemed no threat. As I said this was just out sometime last night, NOT 2001 or 2003..  Last Night. Thanks for your take on it BUT I will stay alert! AND thanks for the reprimand, sorry I wasted your time or space with my post!..... kisses  Candace

No, Babe.  You don't have to apologize.  Not everyone is up on the viruses out there & may not have the ability to check it out.  A lot of us would recognize the importance (or non-importance) of your post, but you are damn straight in "better safe than sorry". Keep on letting those out there know that may need your help.  No harm, no foul if it's nothing....right?

I am resending this as I forgot the heading. There is an anti-virus program available that surpasses Norton, McAfee, Trend, etc.. It elliminates the virus, repairs and restores ALL files, never quarantines or elminates files, and WORKS 24/7. It is called Virobot, and if you email me I know where it can be obtained locally, almost immediately. Best on market, well kept secret.

Well, at least she cared enough to share what she thought was important to others. Thanks for that, Candace.

It is indeed a gray area of "What do I do?"  Do I tell others, at the risk of spreading a false rumor, or do I keep quiet since it hasn't affected me yet? (I know - there were already 271 readers of her post. Now, how many of them turned around and told someone else?)

We see this type of thing very often, and a simple link to one of the "Hoax Explanation Pages" usually qwells the excitement; for a while, and then they pop back up again. (There's this email chain about a kid who's dying; there's some religious letter about the FCC; etc.)

If you think you smell smoke in your building (at work), do you just keep quiet, or do you call someone?

I usually advise people to report it to someone knowledgeable on the subject. They can check it out without causing further alarm. But, that's just me.

Candace used the "Better safe than sorry" approach becasue she cared enough to share her sense of impending danger. Again, thanks for caring.

OK, Candace wants a PUBLIC APOLOGY. Anyone who knows me knows I meant nothing of this other than a little tongue-in-cheek humor in teh fact that this wasn't a real emergency.

Here is your apology, Candace. I APOLOGIZE.

I apologize for alerting the world to the fact that this was OLD NEWS and not a new nor real concern.

I APOLOGIZE for being a realist and not an alarmist.

I APOLOGIZE for being intellectual, and spending 15 seconds to determine the fact that this wasn't a virus nor a real concern. Anyone could do it. I did. I COULD HAVE KEPT QUIET and chuckled to myself.

Rest assured, I will in the future.
