Is there a reason why so many people feel the need to post via an alias?

Hi Atl_Guy this is my first post how do you know if someone is using an alias for a post?

so they can boost a providers ratings
so they can lower a providers ratings
so they can talk about folks anonymously
this here aint heresay i have been told by hobby fellows that they have posted fake reviews..and gotten aliases for such reasons..

You cannot post a review under an alias.  All reviews have to be posted using your primary login name.

My point is that posting to a forum under an alias really has nothing to do with posting fake reviews.  

You could create several user names so that you could post fake reviews, but the only real point would be to make it more difficult to compare your fake reviews.

On the other hand, you can create aliases under any account to post to the forums, to for example "talk about other people".

Messages posted under an alias do not have a option to send the poerson a private message.

Some of us like aliases just for grins.  We get to create alternative characters on the board and have some fun in the process.

I'm not a Boner Terrorist in real life and I don't play one on TV ... only here.

I bring this up simply for the sake of questioning how much legitimacy someone's comments are when they post via an alias.  It intriques me to read comments from someone who is clearly using an alias and listen to the tone they are using.  They may lash out at someone or fully endorse someone as simply the "greatest in the world".  

I realize an alias may be useful to ask a question that you do not have the guts to ask or to start conversation or perhaps even play around with someone.  

In recent it appears many people are using aliases to post opinions or make comments.  I would hope that people on this board will read opinions that are posted via an alias as nothing more than a joke.  My take on it is that if you don't have the guts to take the heat for something, then don't say it at all.  If you have the guts, then speak up and take it head on.

Thoughts anyone?

it seems a lot of the alias use lately has been for "insider" conversations, consisting of lengthy threads, that don't really say much of anything of substance.

Yes, yes, I know those conversations are "fun", and the board should be about having fun, as well as sharing information, but with the TER first page being fairly short, some restraint might also be a good thing.  Then, maybe, other threads can stay on the first page longer, and folks that are moderated and have contributions to make, can feel like they can make them, and not have the whole thread disappear before their post makes it out in public.

I took a look at some recently posted reviews.  I still find it amazing that a variety of individuals find a woman's appearance to be "model material" or "once in a lifetime".  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but reviews are written for all.  If the woman you have visited could pose for a nice magazine, then she is model material.

I, too, have been somewhat amazed at all of the 9s and  10s being showered on some of the ladies lately.  I guess a lot of folks have different standards than I do.  I will only give a 9 if I believe the lady could pose for a nice magazine. I've only given 2 9s in 2 years.

No kidding.

I have other interests, like what's going on with the NASDAQ.  But what does that have to do with hobbying (other than it affects my available pocket money, LOL).

Accordingly, I also belong to other forums where I know people share those interests.

It may come as quite a shock to some but I am sure more than a few of us could really give a rat's patootie about "Them 'Dawgs" or the Braves, LOL.

You are 100% right about the rating system. Lets just say many of the ladies may be model material, but at least twice that many are heavy and they get many 8s, and 9s. !LOL I guess they are model material, just a different media.

I am trying to find my perfect lady to break me in, and its really funny how the few i have contacted act so cold and unfriendly..I know that it is because I am new and they are being very careful, but  Heck I felt that I was disturbing this 1 ldy, so I just called and canceled my appointment (did not want to waste her time)

I think it is pretty common knowledge that I use two aliases extensively, one for posting 'investigative reports' and another for posting 'board meeting' announcements.

I think this makes it easier for people to search on either type of post, or to easily identify the likely content of a message without having to actually open and read it.

However, the vast majority of my messages are posted with the regular login, atl_mgr.  And I have no secrets that those two aliases are me, either - I think most folks here know who they really are.

Using aliases for just funnin' around is also okay, I think; the entire 'terrorist' series easily comes to mind as good-natured fun, and helps make this lively online community what it is.

But you are correct -- hiding behind an alias is usually not cool, especially when the message borders on mean, spiteful, or controversial comments, etc.

... the holidays are coming up, and there is extra pressure on some providers to procure the additional funds required for presents.

Historically, there is always an increase in new providers, provider ads, and self-reviews during the months of November, December, and even into January (gotta pay those credit card bills!).

What's the big deal if a post ends up on page two?  Just because it's not on one page for the week doesnt mean it wont be read. I think if you find a particular post uninteresting you should just skip over on down. All posts are dated so there's no reason one cant see that they are still current.Nobody is paying for front page exposure here as on eros. As far as front page adds go; Sophia's reply to this post with her Smokin vertical Smile was more inspiring than any other Front page add I've seem in months.Just chime in with something like that and it's sure to get you some attention. That's what makes the Atlanta board so much fun. Even the national board is hard pressed to stay so lively. Look at carolina,  mabey 3-4 days on the front page and dry as a desert...

I am actually so flattered and amazed at all the terrorists that have been created here. It CAN be alotta fun here besides being just a place to find safety and like minded friends. I am for the FUN part. I work too much already..................

How does one know the comments are legitimate or not, unless you know the poster personally.

I know that some of you know one another personally via Board Meetings.

Otherwise isn't everyone using an alias really with handles and aliases?

Am I missing something here?

If everyone that posts on the borad knows me personally and I don't know any of you personally, then I got to move to Canada, well that may be even real close so let me try China, Nepal or something.

Really, if you all know me personally, then something is fishy isn't it?

Wow this has been an interesting thread. I am a real bluesman and have been for 40 years. I have only one handle and no aliases. I stand behind what I say and won't be hard to find. This site is a great forum for exchanging information. I hope to see you somewhere on the blues highway. Happy holidays gents!

I was at Darwins on Roswell Road last Saturday night. I'm off on the road again. The last few times I was in Atl I opened for Leon Russel at the Masquerade and Bo Diddly at the Roxy. I'm slowing down after 40 years on the road and 3 marriages. I'm getting close to retiring and need a good hobby. Since I love fine women this is a great hobby. But I'm still plugging my new CD release called Colorblind and so it's back on the road for a while. I'll let you know when I'll be performin back in town. The band really kisks it so we all have a great time. I hope to see you at one of the shows. See you down the blues highway.

Hi Woody and Jimmy I'll let you know. Leon had 2 foxy daughters that were singing in his band. They had pink hair and large breasts, I forgot how they sang but they dance in front of the stage the whole set. they were really fine.

Gotta be in his 60's I worked with a gal that sang with him back in the Movie Leon Russel and The Shelter people.  Remember that one? Kathie McDonald and Bonnie Bramlett were both in the flick. I worked with both of them.

It was past their 70's hits era, and in a smallish bar/nightclub that usually had live local musicians.  A few of us were just out bar-hopping one night, walked in, and sat down an open table near the stage.

About an hour later, I was stunned to see Leon Russell and Edgar Winter walk on stage and perform a 2-hour acoustical set together.  I was less that five feet away, and don't think my mouth closed the entire time; simply incredible.

No cover, no advertising, just two legends out having a good time together on-stage and jamming big-time.  I think they knew the owners or something, and just wanted to play...
