Any providers taking Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil etc....

Have you noticed a change in Libido?

Decreased sensitivity of the girly parts?

Inability to climax from clitoral stimulation?

Have you tried more than one med and found one to have less sexual side effects than another?

Thanks,
Gianna

Guys with input from experience with medicated wives and girlfriends welcome to respond..

...side effects, particularly sexual side effects.  Among the problems of SSRIs is the fact we know they work, a good understanding of How, but not the Why.

Wellbutrin has a reputation for having the least sexual side effects but also is among the least effective SSRIs.

As someone has suggested, you might have better luck if you Google  " SSRI Sexual Side Effects " and read other forums on the subject.

From personal experience, after a personal tragedy ~20 yrs ago, a MD put me on Paxil. Within a couple of weeks, I was in a bit if a haze with no sex drive. Even boobs lost their appeal. I knew then I needed another outlet and began using friends and family as counselors until I got through the tragedy well enough.  I'm at my best when I'm clear headed and horny. lol

Good luck with your research. I'd be glad to help if I can.

but a few others made me totally out of it. Before I realized that life was not all peaches and roses and that I was not chemically messed up, I tried every medication out there and my doctor was happy to use me as a guinea pig. If you drink with them, makes it 10 times worse...so don't!

It took me about 2 months to train my body to feel sensations again, because that's what the meds seem to mess with...your sensitivity. Many men, have a limp noodle for the first few months of taking many of those meds, but you can get back to feeling normal after you balance out.

When I came off of Paxil, it was like freaking heroin! I threw up 3 times a day, for about 2 weeks. For people taking these meds when not chemically depressed, it can really make things worse. I know many people who just smoke pot to ween off of meds, and seems to do the same thing lol...much cheaper too.

Side effects differ from person to person. Before taking any of them, you need to do some research on your own and have a serious discussion with your Doctor. Remember the fact that, the doctors are prescribing medicines based on kick backs they get (sad but true) so, the need to do your own research.

Indeed, I am speaking from person experience. One of my doctors gave me a Effexlor which caused a non-ejaculation and non erection condition then I was prescribed Viagra which gave me an erection still no ejaculation and the erection will last for ever. Changed the medicines and started on Zinc 50 Mg, Amino Acid and NO2 regimen after about 6 months back to normal.  Amino and NO2 non-prescription.

Not sure any of the above works for females.

If I were you, I would stay away from Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil. There other treatments for the same with less side effects and generics are also available. Press your damn doctor.

NoQuarterGiven - Yes, I believe providers are different from civilians...we climax more per capita than the average person, so who would you ask to do your spine surgery...The guy who does a few a month or the one that does a few per day?

Thank you London!
Anyone who knows me or has met me knows im far from depressed, chemically or otherwise but had it recommended for migraine relief, sounds like your guinea pig theory to me.

I wasnt looking for Google or WebMD research...I am a medical professional but wanted personal experiences since who the heck wants a provider who is numb from waist down instead of the usual from the neck up,LoL.

85% of providers surveyed use Drugs, Alcohol, or Medications.

I dont care if they give me some miracle drug that is a cure all..... Life without orgasm is not living!!!!

As a woman with high sexual energy, i guess ill deal with the throbbing in my head so not to lose the pulsations in my pants.

Zinc is responsible for Testosterone production for male libido and female orgasm... Its what is in all those aphrodesiac foods like chocolate, oysters, etc..... so anonomousfun has the right idea.

Viagra is dangerous and makes you look like a radish. Cialis is safer, but not sure if it works as well. Any thoughts?

...for me the Cialis did not work consistently. The Viagra always works. I cut the 100 mg pill in half. I have had the Viagra cause me to look as if I'm blushing or been in the sun a bit too long but cutting back to 50mg took care of that. It lessened the other side effects too.

Yes, very true. I was a pharm rep for 5 years, and I can tell you that the "other" uses for these medications, are often the secondary reasons docs will prescribe them. We were not allowed to mention directly, all of those other uses because it took away revenue from drugs that were specifically created for those other things. Paxil is often prescribed to quit using cocaine, and Welbutrin to aid in quitting smoking.

percent of users 12% in some series.

Wellbutrin, an amnioketone, had it's first indication for depression; the second was for appetite suppression (mild); the third was for smoke ending.

IMHO the best and safest med for smoke ending is a Boerhinger med that has been around for nearly 20 or more years called Catapres (Clonidine) which has few side effects and doesn't cause significant postural hypotension.  And it's a helluva lot cheaper than the other smoke ending meds or any of the clinics that make money purporting to stop smokiong. It works very well.

And London is right; they're told not to discuss off-label impact but often those off label uses are very beneficial and widely known way before a drug rep calls on someone, because they are all over the literature for years while the drug is making its way through the NDA's (the approval process) to get it on the market, whether the rep decides to discuss them or not.

LOL How can London who looks pretty young/and great have had so many careers incl. 5 years as a pharm rep?  I believe you but it seems a lot to cram in (no puns).  It's a great background for your current goal though.

The side effects of all anti-depressants  whether they are SSRIs, older TCAs, or amnioketones like Wellbutrin can be paradoxical, and when they're used the fact that they might take 9 days to 3 weeks to have an impact is a fact of life docs and patients have to deal with.

It's tough and disappointing when someone has spent significant money on one of them, and they don't work, as well as the waiting to find out.

Trust me on that...it's more than bringing donuts and giving out ink pens. I got into escorting because of seeing how many reps were pretty much hookers.

The one that worked the best was Paxil, but like I said...coming off that stuff, I would not wish on my worst enemy. Wellbutrin mixed with Haldol caused me to have a seizure, but the Haldol was given to me at the hospital after a night drinking and I was out of control. The next day, my entire jaw was being pulled to the right side as if someone hit me. It was nuts.

Effexor and Zoloft made me sick all the time, and I saw spots taking Prozac. Remeron (sp) and Neurontin knocked me out in conjunction with Prozac that kept me up. I feel better without any of that crap, but when you're on it...you feel great minus the side effects.

I always asked for samples before filling any prescription to make sure I don’t have any significant side effects. Once you fill your prescription you are screwed, hard to return medicine and get new one.

I only took Wllbrutin and Effelor, off it now. Indeed, coming of it is a killer.

It will blow your mind. It looks like you think providers and hobbyists on this board is something different than the other boards.

You will be surprised to find out the backgrounds and the level of knowledge people have on this board. I would argue, most people here are more informed and aware than people hanging out on other birds.

Hyperbole saying the side effects are significant is ludicrous. Side effect depends on whether you fall on the low % with significant side effects with specific medication or not. It depends because, each of them have different side effects so people taking them have side effects based what they are sensitive to.

Just like some people have significant side effects with Aspirin, other do not. Some cannot take penicillin while some other cannot take sulfur based medicine. it is like Lactose intolerance, not same for everyone.

What is important is to make sure whatever is prescribed does not have significant side effects one cannot tolerate. Hence, the getting sample from the doc is a better idea.

i agree with everything your saying , and it really depends on the provider as to how many orgasms per week vs civilian lovers. some of us climax easily and repeatedly. FYI- I giggle sometime afterward too. Most couples don't have sex multiple times or hours per day every week, can u agree with that?

Like I said earlier, im not looking for medical prospective on the topic, im looking for provider and client prospective.

I have a medical degree and am in college currently so my question is industry prospective not medical.

thanks for everyones input, some of you sound like medical professionals too, lol

I just aced my philosophy midterm...on my way to finishing my RN woot!!!

if I wanted to know details about the sexual side effects of antidepressant meds, I would ask on a board full of thousands of people who take those meds. you would be asking a much larger pool of people who take the meds you are asking about. duh     Here on ter, you've gotten a handful of responses. On a site dedicated to the subject of depression meds you'd get 10, 50, maybe 100 people to respond.  you could read through past threads on the subject too

funny that you think providers climax more with customers than civillians do with their real lovers. lol

the side effects of these meds are signifigant. they should be a lst resort onlyif you can t fix ur problem any other way. Overprescribed and cause as many problems as they solve
