How right you are about the casual clothing part. If I meet someone in modest clothing I'm far more impressed than by someone who arrives in heels and fancy clothes. Besides, nosey neighbors notice such things.
On really rare occasions I have learned true names and other personal information from providers. Information that I'd never repeat to anyone. Talk about sports I can do without, but there are hundreds of other topics that could be interesting. I once even taught a provider the essential basics of Tarot because she expressed an interest. To me, providers are first and foremost human beings who deserve respect on that basis alone if I meet with them, and I consider the chatting just part of that respect.
I know there are some hobbyist that like to chat with providers during the session and some that likes to get in and out and leave. Do you like chatting during a session?
I like to chat with providers because it allows me to get to know more about them as well as determined how much a freak and crazy they are lol, just playing. Some have interesting stories and experience. I remember one provider that I saw who moved, have some really good conversation.
I feel like I've wasted my time if chatting is constrained and it definitely makes me feel uncomfortable. The provider doesn't have to give out her whole life story, but it is nice to know a bit about them.
I don't ask for nor expect (nor frankly, want) their "whole life story". I do like to chat before though. Sports, the weather, traffic, a good restaurant. That, coupled with my preference that "she" be in casual clothing (as opposed to lingerie or very dressed up) makes it more like a date, or even a couple of neighbors who always had the hots for each other just chatting and suddenly, their fantasy DOES come true

I am more likely to contact a provider that I know more about such as favorite drink and favorite pass-times, or if she likes to read. These things make for a simple gift such as an Amazon Card or bottle of wine as a get acquainted gesture.
but as long as she is hot, I don't need to say much more than hello (if that much) before getting down to business. IMO there will be plenty of time to chat between rounds or afterwards, I don't really need 15 minutes, or even two minutes of "getting to know her" to get my motor running. My motor heats up pretty fast without a bunch of chit chat, but others I am sure will feel different about this, especially those guys who really need to feel a connection to enjoy themselves.
I very much enjoy chatting with providers, even though I suck at small talk! It helps perpetuate the GFE.
