Peugeot's scary fast, Audi has some catching up to do, Acura's within a second of them both... and now's there's rain.
Audi has never lost PLM, in 8 years. Peugeot beat Audi at Le Mans this year after Audi won at Sebring. PLM is this year's 'rubber match' for bragging rights.
Oh, when it comes to weather - No Lightning, No Problem! Rain, the great equalizer... Just put on some "Full Wet tyres" and keep on going!
If NASCAR fans want to see racing in the rain or shine, day and night (headlights aren't stickers on the front, after all), then watch SPEEDTV starting at 11 AM for the 10 hrs/ 100i miles of PLM.
Unfortunately even these cars could not continue with the heavy rain Saturday. Major dissapointment as it was shaping up to be a great race.
Were you there, kosh? I spent Sunday trying to clean the mud off everything I took to the track. Still, it was enjoyable, just a let down no to see it run to conclusion.
We did get lightning Sat afternoon and it was "pair 'em up Noah one more time" at that point. If not for the previous week's worth of rain and the ground being absolutely soaked - we had a chance for a full 10 hour race.
With the standing water, the pace car couldn't go fast enough for the Prototypes (Audi, Acura, Peugeot, etc.) to got fast enough to keep heat in the tyres. A lot of sliding though the Michelin Wets held up longer than Goodyears would have (if Goodyear actually made a WET tyre worthy of ALMS).
I really felt bad for the SPEED guys who took a chance on airing Petit uninterrupted by NASCAR crap practice and such. I hope they are not discouraged.
