Sounds weird.....

A way that black people distinguish light skin to dark skin amongst themselves.. Red bone is a red headed black person with some reddish tones to the skin .. probably alot of Irish in them.. Kinda like they call a very light skinned gal.. High Yellow..

Here is the truest definition that you'll ever get or see....

A redbone is a word that largely catches the attention of black men.  It's meant to denote a light skinned female of African heritage (typically an African American female vs any other kind of black person from around the world).  The term was born at some point in the southeastern United States decades ago and is still used commonly used...even musical verse from urban rappers/singers to give a feel for a certain kind of girl (sample from Lil Wayne "I like a long hair thick red bone"....this simply means a lighter skinned black female with a curvy figure)  

In terms of skin tone think Alicia Keys, Jessica Lucas (google her/gorgeous), or even Beyonce....although the quintessential redbone is going to be more an Alicia Keys color, jet black hair, very exotic features in the face although any light brown or lighter female can use the term (the lighter you get -- the more vintage in quality).....they are usually biracial or have a number of ethnic make-ups which makes her a different kind of looker than the typical black, white, or Hispanic provider).  Males hardly ever use the term to describe themselves.

Now here's where it gets tricky:  All people using the term to describe themselves aren't redbones ... in fact most arent (you'll see a lot of brown or darker women using the term just to show up in listings, personal sites, twitter, basically everywhere... and maybe someone will be ok with other aspects of her)

There are tons of them on BP, EROS, etc -- but as with any of this stuff you have to weed through them to find a gem.  Happy hunting.

The definitions below are largely correct. A "redbone" is a black woman of mixed race, or simply of light skin tone. That distinction, for reasons too complicated for this thread, is significant in the African-American community.

It is akin to a caucasian lady who advertises "blond hair, blue eyes." Some may say, "What's so special about that?" However, in the larger "cultural psyche," there is weight placed upon certain physical characteristics.

Bottom line, to the lady's African-American clientele, her being a "redbone" is a selling point.

It's All About Branding

Well here's my take on it...

Ebony models come in a variety of flavors: Caramel, Milk Chocolate, Bittersweet Rich Roast, White Chocolate...mmmm, I believe I have a sweet tooth today.  Ebony models work very hard to distinguish themselves in the industry and using the term Redbone is just another form of branding.  Stating this in an ad would signal to any African American gentleman (or those familiar with the terms AA's use to describe skin color) that she is very light in complexion and for those that want to try/prefer ladies of that hue it is a immediate clue.

That's the marketing ploy, now here's my blunt card take on it:

1.  She is probably for the budget friendly.
2.  She probably dates primarily African American men and it is her preference.

Not that she doesn't see other gentlemen but because of how she chooses to word her postings this is what she primarily attracts.
