I remember seeing a movie a few years ago called Any Given Sunday with Al Pacino as a pro football coach. Elizabeth Berkley (from Showgirls) was an escort he was seeing. They had a long term situation, and he started writing her checks for her services. That always stuck in my mind, partly because it seemed stupid, but also because it made me think that after all that time they had a level of trust.  Anyway, I wonder how often that happens. Or if it does ever happen.

Around New Year's a few years back. Basically my direct deposit got screwed up due to the holiday and I couldn't get my hands on the cash. Luckily the provider was kind enough to let me pay via check since I was a regular.

But, like the Any Given Sunday situation, we'd had some time (almost six months) to develop a foundation of mutual trust. And I am confident it was a one time exception due to extenuating circumstances. I am very grateful to her for it though :) If you're reading this, thanks again!

I was just watching that movie on tv recently. I thought about that as well, but consider the time the movie was made. That was 1999, things were a lot different then compared to today. I believe that probably went down,  more than likely with regulars.   I'm pretty sure my man Oliver Stone wouldn't make that up lol.
I think it would only happen today if you been seeing a particular provider for quite sometime and built a good level of trust with each other.

On two separate occasions...both with long time associations, and it was never a problem.  Gave totally new meaning to the heading casual labor under the payroll section.

I'd guess that this business in general is comprised mostly of optimistic people who don't obsess over being screwed over by the other party.  This site, however, might be another matter completely.

Went by the name of Jerry Springer.  Through that check, they were able to get one on Jerry.
 I once heard a local Atlanta standup comedian talk about the whole situation, but ended with "you have to give him credit..he got her to accept a check!"

It bounced.  Here's the details from wiki..

He resigned in 1974 after admitting to hiring a prostitute.  The episode was uncovered when a police raid on a Fort Wright, Kentucky "massage parlor" unearthed a check Springer had written for its "services". The check subsequently bounced due to lack of funds in the account. Springer came clean at a press conference. Long-time Cincinnati newsman Al Schottelkotte pronounced Springer's career over, but Springer's honesty helped him win back his seat in 1975 by a landslide. In a post-election interview, Schottelkotte good-naturedly reminded Springer that he had declared Springer's career over. Springer told the newsman, "I'm glad that you were wrong." In 1977, he was chosen to serve one year as mayor by the City Council.

I've had a couple of regulars that I've accepted checks from.  

One gent I remember had open heart surgery and he couldn't drive for 6 weeks.  We had a weekly arrangement and once he got into the 4th or 5th week after surgery, he would send me his grocery list and I would go pick up a few things for him on my way over to do my weekly visit.  He would reimburse me for the groceries and the weekly visit with a check.  We had been seeing each other for a couple of years.

I also accept credit/debit cards so it's virtually the same thing.
