PT made a great point about having any Atlanta mod be from out of town. I think that any member from Atlanta with the prerequisites to become a mod would also be way "too close" to the situation to be objective, myself included.
There is no desire for the boards to be just that...but it takes more than a mod to change it. I'm famous for saying it's YOUR board on the ones I work. It's people participating or not that gives each board it's unique personality. Personally, I adapt my style to what the board members prefer to see. That would be one reason why I had asked LP about how he prefers to do things, and how things work on the ATL.
Picture theme days...people either love or hate them. Not much middle ground on that one. I personally am in favor of them...but only if they are done "right". Might need to be a little 'tweaking' on that.
Lively discussion and exchange of ideas and opinions can be fun and frustrating at the same time...but there's no doubt that the members of the ATL board can provide both.
It's an honor and a pleasure to be, even a small, part of things around here!
As most of you know, this is a busy board and we've lost our co-moderator. My schedule is feast or famine. There are days that I can be on for hours and others when I'm on a plane to some nasty place that the internet has forgotten. I've asked, begged and pleaded to the wonderful Admin here and she's given me a great helper. Many of you know DirtyDaego. For those that don't, he currently moderates the Florida board along with Boston and New England. I specifically asked for him, so if you like him, I did it. More importantly, if you DON'T like him, I did it, lol. Since Florida is close geographically, many of you may be familiar with the board. The photo theme threads there are pretty active, and I've asked him to take a look at our way.
Please welcome Dirty D and expect that he'll make a positive impact on the Atlanta board.
I am glad they moved quickly to give Phil the support.

Been a while since I used the FL board so I took a look and was somewhat surprised to find its not the place for lively discussion that it once was. Seems like nothing there but provider ads mixed with some interesting photo threads but that's pretty much it. My discovery caused me to take a more careful look at the ATL board and it seems that it too is pretty much an advertising board for the past few weeks anyway.
Is this just coincidence or is there a desire for the boards to be that way?
During the "wine & dine" phase with DD, he commented how much I allow. I really don't pull much (not counting the photo thread stuff and bad ads), so what you see is what people are posting. I've moderated several regional boards along with a few national boards. Each tends to find it's own place. There are things about how Atlanta operates that I find maddening, but I try to bite my lip and apply the rules as best I can.
I'm not sure what lively discussion you're looking for, but I'd be glad to see it. Perhaps its just too warm to buy them coats, heehee.
Thanks LP. Guess the warm weather has most folks doing other things instead of rambling on the boards but I appreciate the explanation. And, most definitely your approach of allowing posts rather than pulling them has clearly come through and while there is a time or two when I wished I had the delete button at my beckon call, I suppose your way is probably the best... lol
