Hello to all! I hope you are all having a great day! The reason I am making this post is to raise awareness about the Ga meth project. The success rate for meth recovery is an alarming 4%. 96% of the people that ever try meth never successfully quit. That is the horrble truth! I encourage you to get involved in any way you can. Even if you spend one hour a week, month, year etc.... You could save a life. I'd always seen on tv how meth is taking over, like an epidemic, but I guess it's not as prevalent in the north as it is down here. WOW! I have to say that in my observation, meth is the new crack. I've done my share of volunteering too...from handing out pamphlets on the National Mall for MDNARAL & NOW to handing out condoms at Lollapaloosa (that was way cool). Volunteering is a two-way street for me...when I help someone, it brings me an inner peace too.
Sad thing is that meth is not a new drug. It has been around for about 15-20years! Has been called crank, speed and other names. It is all meth and if it doesnt kill it will take over and destroy lives and people end up in jail and ultimately people do die. A alot of the counselors and dr.'s have never even seen it so they only know what the books say. GMP needs people of all types and walks of life, recovering addicts, family of addicts and just everyday people are all needed! I happen to know few cases where people got addicted on their own and dealt the crap. Those should be neutered.
As matter of fact, 99% gets addicted on their own. I am all for helping others when they fall in unfortunate time that is beyond their control. Don't believe drug addiction is fall in the category of "beyond ones control".

You're right, it wouldnt help them, but it damn sure prevents them from breeding, and bringing kids into their fucked up lifestyle. Ever seen a meth home? Kids play in that filth. Sure, the parents need help, but my attitude is, once you have one you wont care for, you shouldnt be allowed to have more. That's not "negativity", just facts.

Yes, I do. When someone inhales a toxic substance on purpose, they chose. Damn skippy. Also, I never said it was funny that anyone was a meth addict. What I found funny was the spay and neuter comment. And bc I'm not part of any solution doesn't make me part of the problem. I didn't force anyone to ingest crap into their body in the first place. While I agree there needs to be a solution, those that don't rush to coddle addicts aren't in any fashion "part of the problem".
On my scale of important charities, people that can't handle their own choices in life are at the bottom.

Just because we have a couple of ex meth head hookers trying to make the rest of us feel guilty, doesn't change the fact that people make a choice to do drugs, some can handle them, some can't. Those that can't, have my sympathy, but my charitable contributions are going to people who have culpability in the problems that they are facing.

have just earned my deepest admiration. As a very proud, very grateful recovering substance abuser, (25 years in June) it always touches me when I see people who care enough to get involved, rather than looking down on these people, or just looking the other way. I volunteer, as a counselor, at two of the local half-way houses, and have seen some horrible situations, and heard stories that would scare the shit out of most people. (My own stories are among them)
My story is among those as well. I have been clean for over three years now and everyday I feel and look better. I am not proud of it but if my story can help just one person then that makes it all worth while. Thank you so much!! Hugs and kisses TL
This is a cause I would really like to get involved in. I've seen so much destruction in my personal life due to this drug...loss of friends, people going to jail, people just dissappearing. It's a horrible, horrible drug and I am definately going to do something to volunteer.
I to have lost freinds and even a few family members to this drug. I now refer to this drug as the devils drug. It truely is a work of evil. is what these people need, not to be ridiculed. I personally know several young couples raising families, quite successfully in recovery. Some of them had children, lost them, and got them back. Others started families after being in recovery. They are genuine success stories. I was only one of the many people who helped them when they needed it. I'm proud to know them, and I adore each and every one of them, and their children.

The truth about addiction and it's recovery is that the only programs that have had any long term, large scale success of helping addicts of any kind get clean are those that end in the word Anonymous. The reasons these programs have been and continue to be as successful as they are is the Anonymity part of the programs. One of the primary reasons for Anonymity is because NO ONE CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE AN ADDICT BUT AN ADDICT. TL, I understand your excitement about your recovery and wanting to help. I congratulate you and other's on their recovery. However, to bring this kind of topic up in this kind of environment just begs for those who are uneducated or unsympathetic about addiction, to add their comments and think they are clever or justified. One of the fastest growing forms of addiction in the world is sexual addiction and all of the "evils" that come along with any addiction. In recent years I have seen may people's lives destroyed because of addiction....drug addiction, alcohol addiction, food addiction and eating disorders, gambling addictions and yes sexual addiction. I have also seen people destroy others and themselves through the addiction to power, money and egotism.
I too was once actively addicted to freebase cocaine, alcohol, morphine and any other substance that I could get my hands on. I have not used any alcohol or drugs in over 25 years and I am diligent daily because I understand that I am an ADDICT and always will be. There is hope but don't expect support from a forum such as this. Go sit in meetings, go to half way houses, pick addicts off the street and take them to detox. The WAR on Drugs that this government is so proud of is a complete failure. This war is fought in the ditches so to speak, 1 addict reaching out to another addict one at a time.
your experience is amazing and overwhelming. I am a survivor of many addictions. Always comes back around in a different form trying to destroy me though. The battle never ends, so I perserve and keep on, keeping on.
Terrilynn, thanks for your post. A woman who is not only secure with her own sexuality but also has a brain and a heart and isn't afraid to use all three is obviously frightening to certain individuals. Too bad. I will definitely check this cause out.

TL- I sent you my PM on this a few days ago prior to your posting. I know how horrible this particular drug is, as I lost a loved one of 12 years to it. I did not recognize her personality (?!) or understood her very destructive behavior (which included many of her loved ones). Every day was a bad adventure. A rehab try (heck -many), but she did not want it. Best to you- we will have to talk some time.

I guess I must have hit a nerve with a few others but thats ok because I have A LOT of people who will be lending a helping hand now! It is so sad that some of you feel the need to be hateful about such a serious problem. I hope that those hateful ones NEVER have to face this issue in your own lives. Ofcoarse some of the people voluteering have never done this drug but they are just out to help others anyway. That is called paying it forward and that is what this thread was about to begin with. Actually Meth was first "discovered" in the 30's by the Japanese who used it for their armies and esp. air force pilots in WWII. It is out today in numerous forms, the Crystal Ice is the scariest of the lot of them...and they are all bad. Meth has a 95% addiction rate by the 4th exposure. Over 25% on the first exposure. The recovery rate is virtually NON-existent. I have been a speaker and presenter for the Meth task force in GA for years. I don't have the time to list all the info, but trust me when I say, this makes heroin look like PEZ, stay the hell away.
And the best question: How do I keep my kids off it: According to a litany of recovering meth addicts of whom I have posed the question, the answer is simple: KNOW your kids friends and KNOW where your kids are and DO NOT buy into the bullshit that they have a "Right to privacy". Almost to a person every single recovering addict I asked provided those three things as the key to keeping them off meth. Asked further is was BE A PARENT, not a friend and not an observer. Finally they ALL said, DO WHATEVER IT TAKES THE SECOND YOU FIND OUT...every day you wait is years in the life...
