Ginger great post and well stated.  It is my opinion that the board is a great tool.  I think it should be used for informational purposes to keep everyone informed and safe.  I do agree with you that often times it is used to provide public bashing by the community.
I feel awkward posting sometimes because given your best intentions your message gets misinterupted and becomes offensive to someone and then the entire thread goes negative.
I must admit I have allowed myself to get caught up in that when I felt like I was being attacked in a thread.
If the objective of the board is to keep the community informed and safe then I certainly support that and would hope that providers that are relunctant to participate give it a chance.

Perhaps the new model for how this board is moderated will help in this arena.

I am refering to tone and how that conversation is framed.

You say it well, but you say it wrong!  A discussion or debate doesn't have to be boring.  Good debate can get honest and nasty and even emotional.  Where it crosses the line and becomes destructive and wrong is when it get spiteful and vindictive; when one uses the board, often anonymously with an alias (and I salute you sir for standing up for what you think), to spit out vile venom for no reason other than to be vicious and hurtful;  where the discussion strays so far from the topic because someone wants to vent over something missing from his or her life.  I love a good debate.  I love a good fight.  And trust me, if you get me riled up on a subject I will come at you with everything I have.  But when discussions degenerate into the vicious childish rantings that often occur here, it does turn me off completely, and I am sure that newer members are even more turned off.

I am not advocating chaos, pot shots or bad behavior.
I am against bland, boring, vanilla discussion.  
There is something here for everyone if they want toparticipate.
