My wife and I used to go to the Statler in NYC... Tommy Dorsey and Jimmy played there. When they died, Sauter-Finnegan took over, conducting a combiation of the Dorsey bands.
The 40s and 50s were hard to beat. In those days, "drugs" meant Gage, or grass or pot or Mary-Jane. Gene Krupa did time because he gave some gage to a band member who was underage.
Copa Girls were 6' beauties who were chorus girls at the Copacabana..... "Her name was Lola,
She was a showgirl,
With yellow feathers in her hair,
And her dress cut down to there,
She would merengue and do the cha-cha

They were young and they had each other
Who could ask for more?
etc.

~Depending on the evening my tastes vary~ hey.. I am thrilled with an MP player connected to a good set of speakers. I do adore being woke up to classical, (*especially if it is being produced by an awesome guy on the keyboard in the adjoining room LOL*)... but anything from the 80's soft rock era. AND all of the classics.(~Maybe I am showing my age here~) Plus a few personal favs. (*Jim Brickman, Joshua Kadison, Kenny G & Michael Bolton*) But that is purely because I was present during their rise to popularity. AS I SAID: I am in no way in the "music league" of you guys...LOL.. hey I was intimidated to post.. LOL kisses Candace
I doubt very much that you are intimidated by anything or anyone, young lady. I guess you've been spoiled, waking up to the piano music coming from the next room. He should have been you know where, waking you with licks and kisses while the CD played your favorite songs. BTW, Brickman has a nice soothing voice. You'll have to bring some of his CDs with you for our soiree.
I love latin singers too..... They just sing to me and i get the willies!! LOL Pink Floyd "The Wall" is good too! I also forgot about Crystal Church the young opera singer she is great! When it comes to music, i would fall in love with a man who has feeling and sings those feelings to me! Man..... O boy i might be in danger there!!
XOXOX,
Kris
what about Journey, The Stones , AC/DC will always Rock !! Poison , Guns n Roses , Ozzy ,Black Sabbath, Ted Nugent ,Bon Jovi , Eddie Money and many more.... all that are listed in this thread are Excellent tho.
Let me take a stab...
Rock: Dada, Clash, Joe Strummer, Clapton, Floyd, Zepplin, Hendrix, the usual suspects...
Punk: Violent Femmes, Dead Milkmen, Gorillaz
Jazz: Toss-up: Diana Krall, Stan Getz, Dave Brubeck
Classical: Gotta go with Mozart on this one
Country: Ick!
Early Jazz: Django Reinhardt (this guy rocks), Armstrong
I musical tastes are very diverse. I enjoy lots of different types of music so it's hard to pinpoint my favorites.
Devil boy, my older son is probably your age, because the artists you like were his favorites as well. He is a jazz guitarist(hobby), 44 years old,and he thought that Jimi Hendrix was the greatest. I bought him his first guitar(Ibanez) when he was six years old, and he has never been without a guitar to this day. Of course, I'm prejudiced, but man. I could listen to him all night.
Very close, I'm almost 40!
Wonder what your favorite Violent Femmes song is. Bet it is "Blister In The Sun". I miss that tape. I got it when I was a teenager myself and had to hide it.
You should try listening to older Country music since you wrote "Ick" next to it. Some 50's Country music is very good and has some similarities to music like that of the Violent Femmes.
What CD is in your automobile at this time? If it is multiple disc player, which one do you remember last playing?
Jolie
My favorite Violent Femmes song is "Gimme the Car". Second favorite is "Out the Window". These are great songs that demonstrate their unique sound and talents.
I said "ick" because I don't really like today's country music. I do like Johnny Cash quite a bit. So his kind of country (perhaps that 50's sound of which you speak) is ok in my book.
What's in my CD player right now? Nothing. I never use it. I've got an XM Radio in my car and have a 30GB MP3 jukebox with a cassette adapter. CDs just don't hold enough love...
The last CD I played in my car was "1 Giant Leap". It's an awesome collection of world music. Check out this link:
http://www.1giantleap.tv/php/summary.php?id=1
Hey, Jolie !!
Email me if you want to catch up a bit.
I'd like to hear what's been going on with you and how you've been.
[email protected]
(And, even more sickening, I've got 3 Country and 3 American Idol CD's in the SUV's CD changer ...)
y'all don't forget about ol' waylon...
My 6 and 7 year olds like that song. Whenever the f#ck work comes on, I mute the volume.
My wife uses my car and plays the CD. My kids are with her and they say they love that song and ask her to turn it up. My wife does not know to mute and she gets a big surprise.
I get in my car to find the CD in half. At least the kids know ALL the words now!!!!
in my CD changer are the following:
BeeGee's Greatest 1
BeeGee's Greatest 2
Best of the Commodores
Frankie Laine's Greatest
Nat "King" Cole collector's Series
Johnny Mathis Greatest Hits
Please play safe my friends!!!
So, you can sing along...LOL...
Right now in my CD changer is "Permission to Land" by The Darkness, 2 double live albums one by Megadeth and the other by Judas Priest, and one of the best albums out there "1919 Eternal" by Black Label Society.
I like reading posts that cover music from Violent Femmes (my fav is "Add It Up") to Nat King Cole. I wonder what Country tunes are in AtlantaMike's SUV he mentioned. Devil.Boy mentioned he liked Johnny Cash for Country. I think I know his type of interest (not certain). But, Glenn Danzig (formerly of Misfits) did write some for Johnny Cash. The Highway Men are good with Johnny Cash and most of his music. Has a certain blues oriented sound with folk. My very favorite if I had to pick just one CD to take with me and is the only CD I ever got to hear again would be Otis Redding (preferably one of his 2 discs with some of those Sam Cooke tunes). But, then Bob Dylan would be missed a lot. Pretty sure it would be Otis Redding though (Change Is Gonna Come, Let Me Come On Home).
Metallica have always listed Misfits as one of their top influences. They covered "Die, Die My Darling" and "Last Caress/Green Hell" on their Garage Inc. CD.
Well, the 2 Country CD's are "CMT Most Wanted, vol. 1" and "Totally Country, vol. 3", both with a lot of today's popular Country artists (and a lot of the same songs I listen to on Kicks). I also put a lot of these on my MP3 player to listen to while jogging.
I also like the Classic Rock from the 70's and 80's.
What's in my cd-player right now? Fear Factory: Archetype
All Time Fave bands:
Dream Theater
Rush
Queensryche
Megadeth
Metallica (pre-black album)
Anthrax
Motley Crue
Pink Floyd

I could go on ...

For anybody else who likes blues, I highly recommend you go to Northside (www.northsidetavern.com) sat night for Eddie Tigners B-day. He is an Atlanta living legend, 70 something years old. One of the original members of the inkspots.
PS: since when is Norah Jones considered blues ![]()
I'd probably start with Clark Howard, Neal Boortz, etc ...
Oh, you mean they have MUSIC on the radio also ??
I used to listen to the "Oldies" station in Atlanta when I did turn it off the Talk Radio stations. Then my daughters cursed me and got me listening to some "Country" music. (I'm ashamed to say, after despising it for so many years [without really listening to much of it], that I really like some of it.) Now I'm tuned to Kicks 101.5 at work. Sad, I know ...
I like Clark ok but his voice drives me bonkers.
So, read his website.
I have given up on Bortz, have the guy committed.
I like the Liberteraian philosophy but Neal goes to far overboard.
Needs to visit reality on occasion.

The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
Jimi Hendrix
1980s-today:
Stevie Ray Vaughan (God rest his soul)
REM
DaRude
the Offspring
the Crystal Method
LMHS!!! Everyone agrees they were the greatest of all time!!! I use their acronym because in this hobby acronyms seem to flourish.
I'm not as sophisticated as some of the rest of you in my musical tastes. I like my music loud, hard, fast, and agressive. I'll be a headbanger until I die.
My favorites are KISS (with Ace Frehley), Metallica, Judas Priest (saw them last month and they really rock), Megadeth, Slayer, Overkill, Black Label Society, Black Sabbath, Van Halen (with David Lee Roth), AC/DC, Queen, Motley Crue, WASP, Anthrax, Disturbed, Accept, Corrosion of Comformity, White Zombie, and numerous other metal bands.

i went to see ministry back in 92 at the lakewood exhibtion hall,

For those of you who enjoy classic singer's such as Sinatra, Dean Martin, Harry Connick Jr., etc, Ashley turned me on to a new guy a couple of months ago named Michael Buble'. Amazing voice and is only like 22 or 23 years ago. I've given his CD as a gift to several friends and aquaintences and everyone loves it. He's got a website with three songs on it if you wanna take a listen. www.michaelbuble.com
My faves:
Elvis
REM
Fogelberg
Vince Gill
Earl Klugh
Mozart
Sinatra
Nat King Cole
U2 (Best concert I've seen)
Bruce
Pink Floyd
Luther Vandross
Marvin Gaye
David Sanborn
I could go on and on!
I'm across the border in Alabama so I can't listen to Atlanta radio. There used to be a college radio station in Nashville that would play nothing but metal and thrash after 9pm.
I love that Ministry song "Just One Fix" but have never seen them. I went to see Pantera in Nashville and Sepultura was supposed to be there but one of them had broken their arm. Prong was also on that bill.
CD palyer is full of live (?) Dead music, everything from '69 through early 90's.
