Bones in Buckhead for steaks. It is an institution with fine service and great steak.
The only reason to go elsewhere is if you want a trendy place. I had the bone-in rib eye last time I was there, as a matter of fact.
The bar is excellent also, BTW. Gin martini?
Ladies and gentlemen of Atlanta,
I will be visiting your lovely city next week, staying downtown, and am looking for some steakhouse recommendations. What is your favorite place to go and why? What should I get? My favorite cut is probably the bone-in rib eye, but a good filet or strip is good now and then, too.
Thanks in advance!
Have not been in almost a year, but all the times I have been there, I really liked it. Hopefully others will some additional suggestions. I am always looking for new places I haven't tried. (hmmm, I think that last statement may be my hobbying epitaph.)
I completely spaced on Bones - but do prefer that to Chops as well. I must be the only person that ever had a bad experience at Mortons. I have never been to Rathburns, so thank you ChicagoDude for the thread.
Just before Peachtree-Check their website.
yeah Bones or Fogo de Chao. Though I prefer the later.
If you want to stay in the downtown area and not venture out too far, there is a Morton's downtown that is a decent steakhouse. There is also a BLT Steak downtown as well.
A short cab ride away in Inman Park is Kevin Rathbun Steak. A local chef owned restaurant, with many awards for his three restaurants.
Best steaks in town
Hugs and kisses

We just had this discussion at home--Bones as the top local institution with the top local steak. Service for non-regulars, well, last time there, a few years back, our waiter saw from a few tables away that my guest's steak wasn't cooked the way she ordered, and he approached us and insisted we let him get her a steak that was properly cooked. Then he jumped the line in the kitchen and brought out a rare filet just perfect (the first one was medium). And the Buckhead Morton's gives consistently great service, and makes us feel like regulars even though we go there about twice a year, and the food is top notch. Alas, Chops like most Buckhead Life restaurants favors its regulars to the point of making non-regulars feel like they aren't regulars (has happened to us enough times that we no longer go). The now closed Pano's and Paul's was the exception and we enjoyed our once a year tradition there. So go Bones or Morton's.
I feel bad I'm not promoting Ruth's Chris, the owner is a friend, but compared to the others I have to give his restaurants an A-, not an A. Still a wonderful steak and experience, but I do think there is better in Atlanta.

If you like dry-aged beef, Rathburn Steaks has a great T-bone. Cool interior also.

Best meats and seasoning in town. Their garlic mashed potatoes too
... being from Philly and asking where the best cheesesteaks are in Atlanta - or being from Seattle and wanting to know where the best cup o' joe is in town. Honestly partner, when it comes to steaks ... not many places here in the ATL that will probably live up to your standards but all of the above are great recommendations. Enjoy your stay!
Ok, seriously this is not a troll, but Bones, Ruth's Chris, and Mortons are overpriced undercooked wastes of time.
That's what I want in a streak - burned on the outside and raw in the middle - which is exactly how all three cook them. Their ovens are so hot that they sear (more like burn) the outside and then leave the center raw.
If you love raw meat, by all means go to the "high end" places.
If you love a great perfectly cooked steak in a great location, Houston's on Peachtree Street is the place (and half the cost).
and beggiing for customers! In fact all of the Morton's, Ruth's Chris, etc. steakhouses across the country are all going begging for business (that's why they keep expanding!).
Seriously, if you're not into the high-end steakhouse scene, why bother to answer this post?
And any of the places mentioned will cook your steak anyway you like it if you make your needs known (well, there are some that will decline responsibiity for well-done steaks, but will provide them).
Oh, and the 'seriously this is not a troll' line pretty much guarantees that most folks will read it as a troll post no matter what you say.
Make reservations! Hal's is pretty good in seating....very laid back atmosphere.....
I'll be there for a few days and am not opposed to having steak every day.
Though they are both good, I'll probably stay away from Morton's and Ruth's since I can eat at those places here in Chicago.
Thanks again!
I'd say that there isn't any place here that I'd rank as a top 20 US place, but those are the best locally in my opinion. Of course everyone will feel differently.
But honestly I love New York Prime now. Great bone-in rib eye which is what I get every time, medium rare. They have a great Lobster too. For a date there is nothing sexier than sharing bone-in and lobster, side of cream spinach. I have turned many a man to NY Prime
Chops is excellent too. Bones is fab but not neccisarily atmosphere for a hot date.
Be aware that Rathbun's and Kevin Rathbun Steak are two different restaurants, right down the street from one another. I personally prefer the latter. Enjoy! Bon appetit!

it's been there forever and consistently decent
Rathbun's isn't far and offers more atmosphere
I've never had a bad meal at McKendrick's across from Perimeter Mall. Great service & great food!
. . . I know what I am talking about!
I can't believe no mention of McKendrick's Steak House, y'all must be a bunch of skinny fuckers
if you are looking for a Bone in Ribeye, they've got a 24oz. beast!
I'll start by sayin Morton's by comparison to all of the above blows, it is a place for smokers that have permanently damaged their taste buds and are really there for the wine list (which I've been told is extensive). Don't believe me? Ask a Morton's lover what their favorite steak is and you will probably get a crappy review then another 5 minutes of wine list review.
By the way, next time you are at Ruth's order a side of the Boursin cheese to apply to your steak, it will take the Ruth's experience up a couple of notches.
If you do Chops, get a deep fried lobster tail on the side. But their steak didn't impress me at all. Also go early, because on a busy night it it a long wait and standing room only.
Good luck, let us know what you decide and how it turns out.
But the harder question is which provider goes best with steak? I would think a tiny brunet in a hot little black dress, something produced between 1991 through 1980, preferably from the southern region of the United States or mid-west!
No shit, go to the Ritz Carlton on Ellis Street downtown Atlanta and reserve the Cheater's Booth. It's private. Take a lady with you. You'll have a totally private setting, complete with drawn curtains and the most fantastic steak you'll ever eat, ribeye, porterhouse, filet, whatever....and if your lady wants something else, try the grilled salmon. Drinks are generous and the well whiskey is top shelf. This place is unique to Atlanta and I promise, you'll have a great experience.
Thanks Tom sounds fun!
