You might want to hold off on those critical updates.  Microsoft is currently working on a patch to fix their patch.  If you've already installed the updates and your computer is running at 100% CPU utilization, then you probably can't read this post.  Sorry.  This doesn't happen to every computer.  Some computers don't display any problems with the new patch, but plenty go phzzt.

Thanks for the info. I was having a problem with a Downloader.Winshow Trojan virus that I could not eliminate. It would only show up on startup. My AVG anti-virus would get rid of it but it would show up again the next day on startup. It would hijack my homepage and throw 4 sites into my favorites list.

When I did the update, the virus didn't come back but my homepage still changes and I get two error messages on startup the say "Error Loading, C:\Windows\image.dll, specific module could not be loaded". Don't know what any of that means. Anybody got any ideas?

I'm a long-time McAfee VirusScan user.  I also have ZoneAlarm Pro in place, and I don't use Outlook on my PC.

When the recent trojan viruses, browser-stealers, spyware, and pop-up hell-raisers started appearing, things started acting funky.  I updated VirusScan and tried several 3rd party anti-spy programs, all to no avail.

Nothing totally cleaned up the system until I finally popped $69 for Symantec's Norton Anti-Virus 2004.  Best PC investment I've ever made, and it takes care of everything, totally behind the scenes.

Highly recommended.
