I'm not a lady but they aren't helping you out here.  Don't bother with the strap-on dental dam unless you are going for that Hannible Lecter look.  Some use a piece of cellophane.  It lets you see what you are doing, is flexible, sanitary, disposable, and readily available.

I've had reasonably good results in the past using glad-wrap, saran-wrap, or similar product.  Allows viewing, is flexible and conforming, and readily allows heat transfer.

Not my first choice for dining pleasure, but if safety is a concern, it sure beats abstinence.
