I left the movie completely drained it was tough to watch for me.....I did learn more about world war 1  and how it was fought  it was literally fought  trench to trench  I had no idea what those men/boys  went through now   throw in a boy and his horse  and the tears kept coming my recomendation would be to wait and see it  at home or alone  my eyes were so puffy I could not wait to get home .......a little to contrived  for my taste should of seen Mission Impossible it would of been much lighter fare now I need a nap LOL

So, it was a good movie then? I was trying to decide between that one & Chipwrecked... I unfortunately got out-voted & had to sit through 90 min of the chipmunks & chipettes singing instead, lol.

Few people today realize the social and political impact it had on the world.  It provided the fertile ground that gave rise to Communism and Socialism, and essentially ruined an entire generation of Britain's and Europe's youth.  Of course, it also put the wheels in motion for WWII just 20 years later.

I guarantee you, no matter how brutal it may have looked in the movie, the reality was far worse.

Perhaps if war was more horrific and done hand to hand there would be less of it...

And a bit of trivia there was only 6 minutes of fighting in the movie.

The movie did have a happy ending, a nice change

sappy and happy ending......  but was it good.....  yes I would recommend it .... but would go alone....  it was horrible to watch even 6 minutes  and so sad in so many ways

as a former horse owner, I'm sure it'll be too much for me.  Forget the popcorn...  better pack a box of tissues...

With a war substituted for sadistic owners... It didn't even begin to do justice to the horrors of "the war to end all wars" trench warfare.. For me, the emotional impact didn't come close to Saving Private Ryan.. and for the record I am/have been a horse owner/lover...

spoiler alert -don't read if you plan on seeing on seeing it.

2 young boys get executed, a horse dies horribly, many very scary and wrenching moments...

personally didn't care for it, my SO dragged me, too.

OK, NOT going to see it, thanks for the heads up.

Too slow for much of it, and a little "too scripted" for my liking.

But in typical Spielberg fashion you have the implied violence, but he doesn't show you anyone "actually" being killed.

And from my bizarre side...I can only imagine that during editing someone had to overlay Joey from Friends saying...

"How you doing?"  (I just kept seeing that happening when the horse was being talked to :) )

Have a Happy New Year...Everyone!

Over the years, I have buried 1 mini, 2 ponies, 3 horses...  all kept on my farm, I was hands on with them every day.  The last was my favorite, my companion of 26 years...   a few short years ago & I can not bear to think of it now.  I don't know what else is playing but I'm not watching this.
