Standard practice for some or a scam? Any feedback appreciated.

providers to require a deposit if the appointment is a multi-hour appointment or if she is traveling.
I do not require a deposit but every provider is different if you do indeed pay a deposit I would look for well-reviewed providers. You do not want to pay just anybody for a deposit because there are scams out there.Doing your research and make an informed decision.
Good luck to you!

standard practice for some..they are just protecting themselves from ncns..if you dont show up they keep your deposit..makes sense to me..

that's just me.  The provider has a right to run her business the way she wants to, and I have a right to hobby the way I want to. My hobby activities do not include deposits or loans for that matter.

Have I ever wanted to see a provider who requested a deposit? sure, but I would never ask her to waive the deposit, I just move on.
There are way to many great providers who do not require deposits.

High dollar providers often require deposits.  They are usually way out of my price range, and I have no interest in just handing over X amount of $ to guarantee a date.  She would have to be something really special to me for me to cough up a pre-date deposit, so far, no on has had that effect on me.

I can think of 3 well reviewed providers who have obsconded with deposits in the last couple of years. While they may be in the minority, they spoil it for everyone else. They also will assess who they are burning, and a newbie is the perfect victim. Just don't do it!

get the Western Union moneygram. After the date was set and the deposit was sent, she wanted to change the time which caused me problems with work.

Just not going to do it again.

I do understand the need for a deposit for a travel date or an overnight, but I don't do those type of encounters.

My hobby budget is not in the high dollar provider range, but I do have lots of experience giving $$ before getting lol. Most of us give $$ with the expectation of...
But there have been quite a few problems written about on ter (especially  reviewers board). The main problem ...once she has your money for doing nothing and she can see others and make more money there exists no motivation for her to see you.Hence the excuses ,scheduling conflicts. no return calls, etc:...

Thanks for the feedback everyone. She stated she travels alot, and the deposit was to ensure I show up for the appointment and that she had a few bad experiences in the past with people who try not to pay.  I see both sides of the coin here, I guess I have to decide if I want to take a chance. If I do it I'll let you all know what happens.

1) Former NCNS.

If someone has scheduled with me in the past and has a history of repeated cancellations at last moment or NCNS, they go on "deposit list", meaning I will not entertain them in the future unless they pre-pay.

2) Travel Dates

If I am traveling somewhere with a specific purpose of seeing one person, I do require 50% plus travel expenses.

You will hear as many "yes it is normal for a lady to ask for deposit" as "never ever make any deposits".

In the end of the day it all comes down to reputation.  For me one deposit represents less than a percent of my income .. so why bother ruining my rep over something like that?

The two situations you mentioned are very valid reasons for requiring a deposit.  In the case of the NCNS, many providers would not even bother with him again.  The travel thing is another case altogether.  It's one thing if you are on an extended tour, but when you are making a special trip for one guy, it's totally reasonable to ask for a deposit to at least cover your travel expenses.

Just goes to point out, there are always exceptions.

Both "gentlemen" have contacted me after the fact trying to schedule again.  Both got the same response:

"I would love to entertain you, but given our prior history I would require 200% non refundable deposit to cover outstanding obligations as well as upcoming engagement"

Somehow they chose to quietly go away ... go figure :)

DDDBabe,

My question to you is this...

If circumstances that have come up that are beyond your control and you had to cancel your previously scheduled tour of a city, do you refund all deposits?

If you do not, what is your reason for not returning deposits?

Never cancelled on anyone before. No travel required.

I've deciided to send the deposit and see what happens. I will post my results when I know whether I made the right choice or not. Like someone mentioned earlier is it really worth it to ruin a reputation over a small percent of income. Thanks again for all the feedback, great to pick the minds of everyone here.

Some providers may require a deposit for a gentleman that has cancelled on them more than once with little time to spare and if the gentlemen wishes to book with them again they require a deposit.

Never encountered her before.

because frankly, I would not do it.  Yes, there are exceptions but I don't see this situation as being one of them.  The hobby is generally a dead Presidents proposition...  with good reason.  Even then there are scams to watch out for.

I intend to. I normally wouldn't consider it, however really loved her photos and what she emailed back to me on the menu. I'm willing to piss away a few hundred to find out.

Emailed provider on Sunday, inquired about availability. She emails back she is available with deposit. 300 rose donation of which I send 150. As the process is ongoing she is emailing frequently for status. After it is done, I don't hear back. I email again and she says she needs a little more time.  I am updating Monday night. Feels like I got taken. Oh well live and learn. Beware of sweetheart on cityvibe. Name given for pick up was Darlene McFadden Wilmington de.
