I went to the local Planned Parenthood today, told the doc I want to test for everything.  But she told me since I don't have any symptoms I just need to test for gonorrhea, chlamydia, and HIV.  I thought that was odd at the time, but then figured that a doctor at planned parenthood, of all places, would know what she is talking about.

But now that I think about it more...  Why didn't they test me for herpes?  Being a straight male I don't worry about HIV really, herpes is the one that I'm most concerned with.  Should I go back and request the test?  And any ideas why Planned Parenthood would say it's not necessary?

Yes, go back and request the test, and make sure you ask for a type-specific test.  Many people who have been exposed to HSV (Herpes) are asymptomatic and unaware that they carry the virus.

Also, just to clear up a misconception, being a straight male doesn't excuse you from "worrying" about HIV.  It was wise of them to test you for that, too, and you should request it whenever you go in for your periodic testing.

Planned parentohood is an excellent place for care. However, keep in mind, that they have nurse practitioners on staff not doctors. Still, speak up, and I am sure that they will give you what you need without you feeling like you checked your morals at the front door.
You made a wise choice.
Good for you!

that you are not at risk for Aids or HIV. But I agree with you on the first part -- that the doctor should have tested you anyway. Did you tell her that you're in the hobby?  Probably not. I wouldn't, but you can always tell the physician that you've been with someone who is questionable and then you'll get tested for sure -- trust me!

I had been getting testing faithfully every six months for years and always asked for the whole enchilada, the whole gamut, etc. and assumed that I was getting just that, only to realize that no, I was just getting what you listed.

The test for herpes apparently is expensive and they don't normally do it. You can request it, but I don't know that they will do it. I'd like to know how that works out for you, so let us know..
Hep B you will also have to discuss and plan for the series of shots (3); and GW is another one that must be requested.

I just do a medical lab and cut out the middlemen telling me what i should know, which I have found to be inaccurate a lot.  Especially about HSV

It might be more expensive, I don't know but the results are fast, 2-3 days for everything generally and they the do a test that tests for HSV I OR II and if that is positive then they do a type specific test.
