Anyone NOTICE who the "MAN of the Year Award" is named after?

Before anyone guesses i'll say DAMNED RIGHT.

The greatest humanitarian to EVER(IMO)play the game.

Ever hear any dirt about Walter? Doubt it.

Back to the game

Full Disclosure:  I am a huge Chicago Bears fan.  My favorite player is Dick Butkus with Walter Payton next in line.

I am a collector of Chicago Bears memorabilia.

I bought some artwork from a dealer in Wisconsin several years ago.  The dealer knew both Butkus and Payton.  They never had a problem with Butkus.  Great guy to work with but Payton presented a problem one time.

It appears that he was wearing some fancy boots given to him by Rupert Murdoch during his visit to the dealer's facility to sign memorabilia.  After the signing was over, Payton was bragging about the boots and demanded that the dealer take off his boots for him.  The dealer initially refused but Payton continued his demands.  The dealer pulled so hard on the boot that it sent Payton into the air onto his rear-end.  Payton seriously cursed out the dealer.

In any event, Payton is still a great player but not without some hidden flaws.

I also collect memorabilia of Payton. Rookies, autographs(authentic),clippings etc.... :-)

Yes, my initial reaction after hearing the story was similar.

I really hope it doesn't detract from your admiration of Walter Payton.

If that is the worst that may be found out about him, he still should be remembered for all of the great things he accomplished in his life.

The award would not be named after him if it was not deserved.
