you'd make an excellent tour guide. :D  I will definitely try to get to the Phoenix Art Museum, probably easier than going to Taliesin, and perhaps a bar on that list! (If you remember the vegan place, would you mind PM'ing me?? It'd be greatly appreciated- I might be eating there morning, noon and night, lol). Thanks again for all the suggestions, I really appreciate them... especially #15, hehe.

Hello there!!

I am visiting Phoenix for the first time later this month, and I was wondering what the locals would recommend in terms of fun activities to do while I'm not working. I have the Heard Museum and either the Desert Botanical Garden or the Boyce Thompson Arboretum on my list thus far...  any other hot spots or not-to-miss restaurants for non meat-eaters? (Long shot, I know!) Not sure as though I'll have time to go to Scottsdale, but if I do, I'll definitely be visiting Taliesin West. Sadly I'll be leaving before the Art Walk on Friday night. :/

Priceline told me that the best attraction is Morton's Steak House, ha, which I know CAn'T actually be true...

I'm so looking forward to exploring the city and meeting some PHX locals, thanks in advance for the tips!

We are a resort town. Lots to do....

1. You cannot beat a nice night on the patio terrace outside the bar of The Phoenician Resort.
2. The Royal Plans Resort has a cool bar - a bit old school - piano player
3. Dinner?? Maestros City Hall ($$$$$) or Geisha Sushi in Old Town Scottsdale. I think there is a vegan place on 5th avenue.
4. Bar Scene Scottsdale - The MINT and all of the bars within walking distance of it
5. We do have Casino's - Talking Stix is not far
6. Botanical Gardens is nice - go when the sun is setting (not in the bright of the day).
7. Shopping - Scottsdale Fashion Square baby. And you can wander the canal and it all connects to old town.
8. Jeep Tour if you have time
9. Wine Bar - Postino, 40th and Campbell
10. Downtown - Fate restaurant - or hop the train and  bar hop at each stop
11. Sanctuary Resort - dinner, drinks, view.....
12. The Heard if you are into Native American art- The Phoenix Art Museum (my preference)  is close to that and is hosting the Frank loyd Wright exhibit now
13. Walk Kierland area and Scottsdale Quarter - North, might be fine for veggies
14. Wrigley Mansion has great views Biltmore area.
15. My place ;-)

I try to eat vegan once and a while... here are my favs...

Cafe Lalibela  ( ethiopian food ) -- Near ASU in Tempe on Univerity &  Hardy

Pita Jungle  -  Have about 5 locations now I think in Tempe/Mesa/ etc

Any of the 'India' food restaurants  India Palace on Univeristy & Scottsdale/Rural
is my favorite.

I was born vegan! Pita Jungle rocks!! Truth be told many chef's love to know they have a vegan to please! I say explore!

Boyce Thompson Arboretum. Spring is the time of the year to enjoy the Sonoran desert, Apacha trail will give you various elevations of the Sonoran desert.

agree with Bob... Apache Trail is a must... don't forget to stop by Tonto National Monument on the way to Globe..

another great road trip (and all pavement) is Phoenix to Wickenburg (via I17/74) to Prescott to Jerome to Sedona (via 89/89A) and the return via I-17... great upper Sonora views as well as our under reported mountain country and the Red Rock country of Sedona and Oak Creek... you can pick up Monctezuma's Castle and Well on that one on the return...

Oh my... I don't assume one can do all this in a taxi without paying a couple limbs... now I wish I'd rented a car. Looks like I'll have to plan another trip for the future, lol...

Thank you all for the tremendous recommendations- I'm truly excited to visit!!
