wish I had recommendations for restaurants, but i don't get out much, and i'm still new at this as well, but try to find a place with easy parking, center city is great during the week, easy after work walk from the office, but on the weekend parking's an issue, airport is easy access and parking.  Roosevelt Blvd is cheap but can get real low rent, watch it, north end is best, good diners, Tiffany, Boulevard, lots of shopping, dance clubs are on the river front, lots of young kids, PARX casino (i've been told is nicer) is in the north east, sugar house on the river front (i've been told has higher crime), and my personal favorites are the museums, very good art museum, Rodin museum, natural history museum, zoo , "Ben Franklin" Science museum and constitution center which is across from Independence Hall.
