My guess its going to be McCain and Obama ...

McCain has the delegates that Huckabee and Romney can't gang up on him and make a difference. Oh, they'll piss and moan, but in the end they'll come out to vote to keep the Democratic Anti-christ out of the White House.

The Dems will be closer.  Edwards seems more likely to throw his votes to Clinton than Obama, and that could make the difference.  He may be pretty, but he ain't stupid, and he knows where his bread is buttered.

So we still think it will be McCain vs. Clinton, and yes, that will bring the Republicans out in droves, and discourage lots of Democrats.

So the questions will be, how badly will the economy be fucked?  I've seen some hardcore contrarian Republicans saying they think it will be OK (and we're not talking about the Dow here, we're talking about foreclosures and unemployment and what Joe 6Pack - who does not know what the Dow is - feels about it) and 2ndarily, how badly fucked up the wars remain.

Clinton could win.  But I'm thinking she pisses off way more people than mcCain does.

Quad,Since your prognosticating ability rivals that of Zin's, I feel much better knowing that the Hildabeast will beat Oboma. She will be easier to beat in the GE.

I don't particularly like McCain, but I don't think he is anywhere near as dangerous as either of the dems. With any luck the demswill keep the Congress, and gridlock will prevail.

Actually.. Obama can't be beat against McCain.
True Our chances are better against Hillary but it sure looks like she is fading fast..If its anywhere near close the Dem Super delegates will not dare to give it to Hillary and alienate a big part of their blind loyalty base..

While I think Clinton will edge out Obama, or outmaneuver him in the convention, there are variables in the general election.

It looks like a good chance that the evangelicals will hang some sort of albatross around mcCain's neck, perhaps Huckabee himself.

The other big variables are (1) how does Joe 6-pack feel about the economy?  Of course the Republicans will tout the Dow, but I doubt that will impress the guy who is a payment behind on the house or car - that's the big one.

The distant 2nd issue is the war - it ain't impressive now, and it doesn't take a genius to spell Tet.  (Though if I were an Arab, I'd be in the rug-trading mood, because it's just too expensive for the US to keep an army on the ground, and you can always change the terms if you have possession.)
