haha, so in your mind challenging a credit card charge is less complicated than waiting a few minutes for the hotel to verify you didn't destroy or steal anything... that's interesting.  I'm going to have to disagree with you there my friend.

I'm going to TJ this weekend for a 1 day trip (not overnight) and was wondering if anyone had recommendations on an affordable hotel/motel to stay at where I can later call and have the girls come to me.  Looking for something with a big tub and is very clean and safe too.  Any recommendations?  I've stayed at Hotel Ticuan before and that was pretty nice for the money, but it just had a shower unless you went with the master suite rooms.  I'd like the option to check out whenever I want though and come and go as needed while I'm there too.  Thanks

Well if you are staying Friday or Saturday then the Ticuan is your best option at $81 with a $200 deposit.

The love hotels are going to charge you every 4 hours.

Is $81 standard room now or is that the master suite room?  I recall paying about $50 for a standard room before there.

That's the price for the Master Suite ($1050 pesos)or $81 USD
Ammenities include Jacuzzi, Plasma TV, safe among others...

Hotel Ticuan is probably your best bet.  The Pueblo Amigo is popular--or was until the Ticuan was built--very popular, but it isn't as close to the border.

Other downtown choices such as Villa Zaragosa, Hotel Nelson, etc.--just don't compare to the Ticuan.

Yeah I stayed at Ticuan in one of their Master suites.  It was nice, it was $84 plus $200 deposit retainer. Place was clean and convenient. Can't complain for the money, just wish the tub would of been better.  Turned the jets on and this foul odor just permeated throughout the room.  Made the water and everything else stink.  Shower was fine.  Go figure.  I think I'd like to try premiere next time.

I have found the folks at the Ticuan to be very rude.  They made me wait 20 minutes, while they went up to check if the towels were still in the room, when I went to check out.  Room service is poor, because stuff has to be brought from nearby restaurants.  I was once there and rented a room.  I had booked a two girl date and I had paid for a standard room.  When the two girls arrived at the desk, the desk called up and demanded I come down and pay for a deluxe room because it was a two girl date and they actually made me come down to the desk and switch rooms.  Just crazy.  Stay there if you like, but they do not believe in anything close to the customer is correct and their rules are hostile to guests and unyielding.  Not my idea of a good time.  The Villa de Zaragoza downtown is friendly, with their own restaurant for room service, with good food. But they have no hot tubes.  A couple of hotels further from downtown, do have good service and hottubs.

Thanks for the info.  I actually received pretty good service from maid/bell hop individuals and OK service from front desk.  They offered to get me food locally if I wanted something, so I liked that they offered. They did make me wait at checkout while they verified the room was okay, but I had a deluxe room with a $$ deposit on it, so I preferred them making sure vice finding some charge on my card later.  I had a 2-girl date in the deluxe room and a single date in the regular room, no real issues but I wasn't impressed with tub in the deluxe (water really smelled when the jets came on), so I'll try something else in the future.  Still not a bad deal, plus you're right next to everything on Revolucion Street.

They can't make you wait.  I've had hotels in other cities try and do that to me, but I just leave with my things and tell them to call the police if they have a problem.

No business can force you to stick around on their property or anywhere else for that matter.  That's unlawful detention at best, and kidnapping at worst.  They could be fined and the person making you stay could go to jail.

Next time they want you to stay, just walk away.  What are they going to do?  Tackle you?

Seriously, some of you fellas puzzle me.  Someone tells you to do something and you obey like you're on the payroll.  But then you complain about it later as if you didn't have a choice.  Same way with the fellow that just handed the money over to the girl just because she told him to.

If I tell you to do something will you do that also without questioning?  I can think of a few things I'd like done.

Good point, but the difference here is that they have my credit card pre-charged as deposit for the room and would not provide the cancellation slip until they verified everything... so isn't worth it to just walk away and find a charge on your card later (or if you paid in cash for deposit, then they won't provide deposit back until everything checks out.... that's why you have to wait).

If they charge you on your credit card for more than what the room was worth, call your bank and do a chargeback.  They'll yank the money from the hotel and put it back on your card.  Hotel will have to prove why you're supposedly liable for the charge.  "He left before we could inspect the room" is not sufficient and they'll lose money and receive a warning from Visa or Mastercard to not let it happen again.  If it happens over and over, then they will lose the ability to process Visa and Mastercard purchases.

Problem solved.  Simple.  You mates make everything more complicated than it actually is.

Well, then I would say people shouldn't complain.  Takes about 90 seconds to dispute a credit card charge.

"Hello, Mr. X.  How can we help you?"
"Hello, I'd like to dispute a charge.  March 13th, at Tijuana hell hole motel.  They charged me extra for the room for no reason.  The slip I signed had it down for $115 dollars or so and they charged me an extra $100 for no reason."
"Alright I'll be happy to help you.  Ok, I've started the dispute, the money is credited back to your account.  If we need any more information, we'll contact you.  Anything else I can help you with?"

To me, that's a HELL of a lot easier than waiting around for hotel staff to do a room sweep, not to mention bully tactics telling me I have to stay somewhere when I'm not under arrest.

Go ahead and let them push you around.  That's why they do it to others, because people like you put up with it.  I don't stand for it, and if everyone decided they wouldn't stand for it either, the businesses would change their practices.

All I'm saying is people come here and complain like there's no solution, when there is.  If a 90 second phone call is too much of a hassle, then let the hotel bully you around, but keep the mouth shut with the complaints.

I'm also glad you find this funny "haha" when I think it's pretty serious when an establishment treats its clients and guests like complete shit.

You guys are making my point.  The fact that they even hastle people is the problem.  Most places in TJ or anywhere else in Mexico I have been do not treat guests that way.  There whole attitude was none too friendly and that the guest was going to do whatever the heck they wanted them to do.  Why put up with that hassle?  I also don't like the fact the big police station is right across the street.  They might just call a cop, the way they were acting.

First of all, I never disagreed with saying the hotel has bad service.  I don't stay at hotels in Tijuana and never have, so I can't say about how other businesses run things.

What I can tell you is that there is an elitist attitude that comes with employees from new businesses in Tijuana, especially businesses that have American backing.  I'm under the impression this hotel is new, so the employees might have a bad attitude.  The thing I disagree with is you allowing them to push you about.  I personally stand up for myself, but most people do not for some reason.

Who cares if they call the police?  What are the police going to do?  Arrest you for not complying with orders from a hotel employee?  That's a laugh.  I don't disagree that if you didn't like the place then you should not return.

You said previously "they made me wait 20 minutes".  Truth is, they didn't make you do anything.  They told you to wait, and you complied.  They told you to bend over and brace for impact, so you happily put down your luggage, dropped your trousers and bent over the counter for them.  That part is more your fault than their's.

Man up for christ's sake.  You're like the guy that handed over extra money to the prostitute in Adelita's because she told him to.
