let's see. If we invaded Iraq for the oil, why didn't we take control of it the first time the military was there? Remember Desert Storm 1? Easy for you to sit at your desk at your computer in your PJ's and nit pick the comments of a dead man that has experienced likely more than you can imagine. There are as many ignorant conservatives as there are liberals. Look around you. Cindy Sheehan DID lose her son, your right. She gave up all custody and parental rights when she divorced the son's father. She basically abandoned him until his death served a purpose. Does she grieve his loss-I don't know. She said she did. Now that she is no longer a pawn for www.moveon.org, you don't hear much about her. Her usefulness has expired. The 'outrage' over the beheading of Nick Berg lasted about 10 minutes in the news media, but his father tried to keep it alive as much as he could, without much success. How long were you 'outraged' when the Somali's dragged the two bodies of the Delta Force sergeants through the streets of Mogadishu? Do you even remember that? Face it. The average American could give 2 shits about Iraq, unless they have someone serving there. They are worried about their job, their house payment, the kids catching cold, which HDTV to buy, why the stove stopped working last night just before dinner, that is important to them. It's been 20 years since I retired from active duty, and I have not been to any intel briefings since, so I couldn't really tell you what is the truth in Iraq. Based on your comments, I sure as fuck know that you don't have a clue. BTW, the chickenhawk didn't isolate the military from the rest of society. The military has ALWAYS been isolated from the rest of society, and you should be extremely thankful for that. It is a world of which you couldn't possibly comprehend. At ease for now, your clear to continue bashing the president.

The Link...A great letter from a fallen soldier in Iraq.

"And every day, the enemy changes... only now, the enemy is becoming something new. The enemy is transitioning from the Muslim extremists to Americans. The enemy is becoming the very people whom we defend with our lives. And they do not realize it."

I can't stand ignorant statements like: "Terrorists cut the heads off of American citizens on the Internet...and there is no outrage . . ." There isn't? There was a lot of it. Unlike, say, when the heads of 27 Iraqis are found.

An honest person, veteran or not, doesn't lead arguments like that.

"The enemy is becoming the very people whom we defend with our lives. And they do not realize it."

What a rank absurdity. He will never have to walk down an American street heavily armed for his own safety. He is never going to live in fear of decapitation here. Though he might due to PTSD, but that's because of what we've served to him in Iraq.

No, I don't think having the war opposed at home is as damaging to veterans as what we've sent then to experience in Iraq.

Before he makes statements like: "The American people have not been asked to sacrifice anything." This is directly due to Bush's policy. Immediately after 9/11, US citizens were willing to sacrifice. He had a coalition. Liberal, conservatives, moderates, anybody would have sacrificed. What did Bush say? He told us to go on a spending spree. He sacrificed unity then. This is the leader Jeffers defends, the chickenhawk who isolated the military from the rest of society.

Why did Bush do this? IMO, because he was afraid to demand any taxes.

"Where will the Cindy Sheehans be to comfort and talk to soldiers and help them sort out the last couple years of their lives, most of which have been spent dodging death and wading through the deaths of their friends?"

Cindy Sheehan LOST HER SON!!!! Where will she be? Probably sorting out her own loses. Probably doing what he says she won't do.

"We are the hope of the Iraqi people... and America has given them the opportunity, but only if we stay true to the cause, and see it to its end. But the country must unite in this endeavor...we cannot place the burden on our military alone. We must all stand up and fight, whether in uniform or not. And supporting us is more than sticking yellow ribbon stickers on your cars. It's supporting our President, our troops and our cause."

Oh, barf, even conservatives (and many here) are now saying that WE INVADED IRAQ FOR THE OIL. They argue that a way out of Iraq is to get our own energy reserves. If we had a domestic source of oil, our soldiers would be home in a week.

Not that the US doesn't care about the Iraqi people. It's about number 4 on the list. This administration will send them a sympathy note and a check post-dated for 2075.

The letter is clueless about how little this war is like WW2, and how it could never be like it.

Oh you think I'm lying? Prove me wrong.

What a dollop of dreck that letter is. It drips of the jingoistic palaver the Bushies have been spewing since 9/12/01.

You'd just have to be calling the dude's Dad a liar, which of course is easy to do over the internet where a left hook can't reach the tip of your nose.......

All's fair when it comes to hatin' Bush eh?

I'm not sure how many letters or articles you've ever read from the genre of "News from the Front," but this is one of the best I've ever read, including all of America's wars. As I was reading this, I forgot that it was my son who had written it. My emotions range from great pride to great sorrow, knowing that my little boy (22 years old) has become this man.

He is my hero. Thank all of you for your prayers for him; he needs them now more than ever. God bless.
