LET'S TAKE IT WAYYYY BACK!
I worked in a hotel as plainclothes hotel security (the house dick, with W.C. fields comes to mind) as part time college job. The high end girls that worked the hotel, were known to us and we looked the other way. I got friendly with a couple of the regulars and would talk with them endlessly between clients. There was no GFE back then and kissing was discouraged. LE was a regular hassle to be dealt with as even if they were not busted they were routinely hassled for sex or bribes.
These girls were not street walkers but their primary means of soliciting business was sitting in the hotel bar to get picked up. They both belonged to an escort service which ran newspaper and yellow page adds, and they frequently worked the pay phone near the hotel bar to answer pages and arrange meetings.
screening of clients was not existent and both of the girls I knew well were assaulted (unreported) at least once in the two years we worked together.
I think if they were still around today, they would really appreciate the internet for communications and the screening capabilities it provides.
I could not afford the hobby at the time, but one of the girls gave me a freebie once. The nominal rate for sex at the time was $100.00, which was way out of my college student budget.
The funniest thing about that time that I remember is the civie girls would frequently get propositioned being mistaken for hookers. It even happened to a GF of mine waiting for me to get off of work.
