I agree completely. The "early returns" on this stuff prove to be utter crap later on in the season. Indeed, look at how the polls have changed already this year. BTW, where do you place a team like Oregon, that lost its first game and then proceeded to totally demolish Cal. If you really want a laugh, check out the Coaches poll. It has Cal rated several spots ABOVE Oregon even after Oregon destroyed them 42-3. I've always considered the AP poll better than the Coaches poll, and this is a classic example why.
was. Jevan Snead did not distinguish himself.
ball today. He is better than Tebow, Bradford, Colt McPhony, Snead et al, but no one talks about him because he plays in the mid-american conference. I saw him play last week. I never saw him didn't know who he was, and wow his footwork, his passing is deadly accurate. I hope the Cowboys can draft him.
OLE MISS and the SEC blows. Or rather they suck all the air out of the room and don't allow for teams like Cincinnati and South Carolina to receive their due. Good for Spurrier.

about the conference mix ups. I do like Tony Pike though. He's good and deserves more accolades.
Breaker, you immediately lose "style points" because you didn't know what conference the Bearcats play in!
But...Cincy's pretty damn good. I saw them in their first game and they kicked the crap out of Rutgers who's actually been pretty good the past few years. Pike's a very good, under-rated QB and if they continue to win, more and more people will know who he is.
Colt McPhony? You're kidding right? The guy completed over 70% of his passes last year and is also a threat to run the ball every time they line up. He didn't do all that with the help of smoke and mirrors!
The SEC blows???? Wake up and smell the coffee Dude! Houston Nutt was Ole Miss's worst enemy last night...that and Jevon Snead couldn't hit water if he fell out of a freakin boat! His mechanics were horrible!
You lose style points for claiming that Rutgers has been pretty good the last few year. They've lost five games in each of the last two seasons, they play in a joke of a conference and got hammered at home last year by Fresno State which ended in fifth place in the WAC.
I said the last few years, not the last two years. What was their record in the couple of years prior to that Smartass?
we've had this discussion before.
is a waste of time. It's all a wfag if you ask me, but it makes for good posts on a slow sports day.

a spread offense QB will make it in the NFL. NFL scouts will look for a QB that can actually call an audible, take a snap under center, drop back, read a defense, and release in less than 3 seconds.
Like you, I am a PAC-10 guy. Watch the progression of Jake Locker of the Huskies this year. Sarkisian was smart to move Locker from the spread to back under center. If he performs, he will be a much higher draft pick than McCoy and Bradford. Tebow is a wild card. He is a big strong kid, and might be smart enough to transition to an NFL style offense. Though I wouldn't be surprised if he is drafted and converted to another position.
Not sure if the guys on this board follow high school football. I do. But the high schools mirror colleges and most have moved to the spread offense as it is easier to teach and less complicated. Unfortunately if these kids have NFL aspirations, it's not doing them any good.
from a game. I was keeping stats for one of the teams.
of being a high school football coach. No not head coach, but just an assistant. Maybe coaching the D-backs. Unfortunately I work too much, and looking at some of these high school programs, these coaches, including some non-paid assistants, spend 50-60 hours a week. Nevertheless, I applaud what you do and giving back a little bit. I should take your cue.
and volleyball teams. I'm not smart enough to be a coach, but this is something that I can do to help. I'll be at it for as long as I can.
to you. Thank you for posting. You have planted a seed. Like St Croix, I have had aspirations to be a coach. In my case, love to be an offensive line coach. I like to see if the lineman goes into a two or three point stance or if they double-team a defender and if they finish blocks etc. Seeing a pancake is to me one of the most exciting plays in football.
I played high school football (I wasn't very good)one year, and that experience has carried me throughout my life.
Thanks Penny.
I loved "snot bubble" hits. I was a scrawny 170 lb d-back in high school, but I enjoyed hitting the wide receiver when he came over the middle. Unfortunately being only 170 meant I felt the hit just as much as the wide receiver.
One of my favorite, although illegal (helmet to helmet) hits is Taylor Mays not only hitting the Penn State receiver in the Rose Bowl last year, but he got a twofer. He also took out one of his teammates.

how it feels to take a hit. Luckily, I couldn't catch so they put me on defense.
