Do escorts provide a valuable social service?

If the service escorts provide is a valuable social service their work should be safe and they should be treated in a dignified and respectful manner, e.g., properly compensated.  I have been a user of provider services for twenty years and after becoming friends with some of them have come to realize how difficult their job can be and how they are often disrespected or even abused by hobbyists.  I believe that we are a community and that we should strive to ensure that providers are respected members of our community and treated with dignity.
