I'm no expert but I Have a couple ideas .
The U.S Olympic Committee gave over two million to U.S speed skating for training and secret weapon suits .
The U.S , once considered a formidable competitor in Olympic long track speed skating will be leaving Sochi with memories of sucking wind and tied for the worst medal count in U.S. long track speed skating of their history .
I heard from an inside credible source , the Dutch team trains at sea level .
I couldn't help but notice , the Dutch skaters appeared to be in much better physical condition , not gasping for air at every long turn . I believe anyone paying attention was sure to notice , the Dutch will be skating home on cloud nine with 24 Sochi Olympic medals , while the rest of the World combined goes home with 13 speed skating medals including 0 the U.S. will be bringing home .
1. Use a portion of those millions spent in the mountains recruiting a few Dutch coaches and give our fine and capable athletes a skating chance before the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic games .
2. Forget about wasting any money on secret suits , the suits don't help the racer prepare for the race they are entering , good coaching will . I'm not making any excuses , the Dutch won fair and square with dominating speed .
I'm just calling egg head coaching as I see it .
Who knows if the U.S speed skating can ever beat the Dutch again , at a game they clearly owned at Socchi ,
but there's no harm in trying to give the U.S athletes a skating chance next time .
Simple Google searches can help shed some light on this:
It is a widely known fact that the Dutch throw all of their eggs into the speed skating basket. US will still be a formidable competitor, and this past Olympics should serve as fuel for the next group of athletes to rise to the Dutch challenge laid upon the entire world.
Going into Sochi, the Dutch (82) led the all time medal count for speed skating, followed by Norway (80) and USA (67). They were the cream of the crop before, and they are even more so now.
You speak of the Dutch as if they had some magical Olympics ... the way I see it, their performance in Sochi reinforced their position as the team to beat in speed skating.

Why the U.S coaches would have their athletes train in high altitude Italy and Salt Lake city ,prepping for a event in Sochi is beyond my skill level to understand .

I should have researched my sources before I claimed the U.S coaches had goose egg on their face . The U.S.won a silver in the 5000 meter relay . I missed that race and the results until today .

No doubt it looks like the Dutch are the team to beat in skating races involving speed without jumps and twists .
With all the media hype before Sochi , I was expecting a better showing from the U.S team .
I should have known better than trust media predictions .
Considering The Netherlands population they were quite impressive at Sochi Olympics , and anyone counting medals should be glad Holland doesn't have mountains for their winter athletes to practice on .
The best part of Sochi , all the media predictions of danger and strife didn't bear fruit .
Great show by all Olympic athletes from each and every country participating
