shooter-especially freebies, shooting 88% for his career-saw him play many times on the tube back in the 50's-he didn't get the press, but was a vital cog in those old Celtic championship teams-he hit 56 freebies in a row in the playoffs, which I believe is still a record-He started the pro 'shoot around' pregame ritual in the NBA as a coach and wrote 2 books...one on shooting and the other on championship basketball with John Wooden-

Sharman died Friday at age 87. He played for the Celtics for 10 years, playing alongside Bob Cousy and Bill Russell. Afterwards, he became coach of the Lakers and led them to their 1st NBA championship in 1971-72, and served as general manager after his coaching days were over. Sharman is only 1 of 3 men in the Hall of Fame as a player and also as a coach. the others are Lenny Wilkens and John Wooden.
